The best part of their protest was that they decried the fact that the university didn't have an atmosphere of inclusion for minority students.

They then hole up in a multi-million dollar African American Culture Center and request that all white students refrain from entering.

I would guess that reasonable people of color, who truly want to see progress made in racial relations and equality, are not appreciative of this sideshow.

I think you are correct. but these reasonable people are often called "uncle tom's" and accused of not being "black enough". this I have witnessed and more than a few times. sadly, there is a tendency of the losers (economically, etc) to try their damndest to bring down the winners (better educated and more successful). this "tendency" is pathetic. many of the successful African americans have "left" the civil rights movement.

absolutely. look closely and see who profits from this type of stuff.

LSUGrandDad, I couldn't agree more. Most of my favorite peeps in the world are conservative blacks. They were typically raised by very strong parents and are very strong individuals.

Exactly. That's the over-reach. That's by very definition segregation. True civil rights activists, who value equality, and want to be judged not by the color of their skin but by their character...those wonderful people are appalled by this nonsense. It takes them right back to "separate but equal" that people fought and died to end in the 1950s and 1960s.

Bingo. This group is proud of having "brought Ferguson to Columbia." Follow the money...

And MizzouMatt...I've heard other people say they thought Columbia was racist, but I never saw that. Like you, I was born and raised in the bootheel, and I just don't see it. Because I'm not racist myself, I don't tend to look for it in others. The University especially always seemed liberal and very diverse to me. But what do I know.

It was pretty hard to be associated with this university last fall. I'm just glad that this whole saga is finally trending in the right direction.

SEMO, I didn't word that very well. Didn't mean to imply that CoMo or MU were any more racist than anywhere else--just that Missourians as a group tend to express verbally what they are thinking in terms of race more readily than many other states. And you are correct--Columbia is pretty doggone liberal.

The original situation can happen anywhere, but hopefully other places won't cave like Mizzou did.

Ah, I get it now. Well, Missourians tend to be pretty vocal and upfront about what they're thinking anyway. Show-Me State and all. We don't hide much in the back room, we bring it into the living room for everyone to see. Which is good and bad, I suppose.

Alumni spoke with a decline in donations, And Conservatives who run the State, threatened to with hold millions.

The loony left who have taken over Missouri got their bluff called, and are folding as soon as they can.

Well, they probably won't because they now have a precedent. When the original incident happened you had a football team striking with a game to play in 2 days.

It is what it is, I'm just thrilled we have some folks in charge now who aren't going to be run by this shite.

Mizzoumatt, I think you put it well there. The defining traits of Missourians that I always think of are cynicism, an extremely wry humor and bluntness. Usually it serves us well. During this saga at times it has probably been taken the wrong way on the interwebs and TV and such.

I grew up in CoMo and it always felt pretty damn PC as far as the locals which is why so much of these claims have really been shocking to me.

But I gotta say, when I go to STL to see my extended fam there, plenty of times on holidays I will hear a "whoa! Did he actually just say that" sorta thing on lots of topics and sometimes race is one of those. I know to their core none of them are racist, but there is a certain bluntness to the discourse that would always scrape my PC trained ears. But if nothing else, what you see and hear tends to be what you get with MO people.

I think this new letter better embodies that bluntness and moves us toward dealing with CS1950 in more the way the average person in our state would. Almost all of them will tell you to your face that racism is bad, but most all of em will also call you a goddam idiot or much worse to your face if you read off a list of demands like these.
