My biggest worry in terms of the new ejection rule for targeting is for when defensive players come in for the sack too high and their helmet barely bumps the QB's helmet. That one seems to always get called because the QB flops and raises hell about it. I guess the refs are allowed to look at replay for "conclusive evidence" that the hit to the helmet was not intentional, but I highly doubt it gets overturned much. Gonna be very inconsistent. It's going to be really pathetic seeing star players suspended for SEC and national title games because of inadvertent bumps to the helmet during a sack.
For example, this North Texas player would be ejected for this awesome play on Mettenberger, even though he does not seem to be going after a helmet to helmet hit. It just sort of happened as Mett leaned down to take the hit.

Those poor defensive linemen. Look at it this way. On the next level, they won't get ejected, they'll just be fined tens of thousands of dollars for a single poor decision.

Helmet to helmet was not against the rules last year and is still not against the rules this year. Helmet to helmet only matters if the player is deemed defenseless. That will now include the QB on any change of possession play as well as the factors I listed earlier.

And I've seen footage of an LSU lineman punching CJ Mosley while lying on the ground and there was no flag. I also remember a UGA player deliberately poking Milliner in the eye in the SECCG with no flag. shite happens. Keep playing and win the game.

Murray wasn't attempting a tackle. He was nowhere near the play. The hit was to his head.
That said, you did read that Murray took responsibility for getting hit and not paying attention, right? Of course not. You say what you say without knowing what you are talking about.

Not according to the rule book last year. For Murray to be considered defenseless last year he had to be "clearly out of the play." You can't run towards the ball carrier and be "clearly out of the play."

Agreed. 15 yard penalty would have been sufficient.

100% of those NFL players getting fined would rather get fined than be ejected for a Super Bowl. I feel like there should be some kind of warning system in place before an ejection. For example, a 15 yard penalty and if the same player is called for another targeting penalty that season he is ejected for a game. A third targeting penalty and he is suspended for the remaining season. That would eliminate the clear thugs who are doing it to hurt people, without unfairly punishing an unintentional mistake.

I have never been one of those people who complained that the new player protection rules are ruining football, but if a player ever gets ejected for making a hard tackle on the ball carrier, then it will be a sad, sad day for 'merica

Murray is a class act. True story. 90+ year old woman was HUGE Georgia fan. Her family arranged for her to have a tour of the Georgia Athletic facilities, and when she arrived, Aaron Murray came out to meet her. They had requested that he meet with her for a few minutes, but he stayed with her during the entire tour pushing her around in her wheelchair. When I read the story i was very impressed. He definitely went the extra mile.

I don't like the auto ejection thing either. AU had a player ejected in its spring game for this. On replay, it was actually a clean hit, but looked bad on the field. Although it is pretty dumb to hit someone on your own team that hard during a spring game.

Athens PD is opening an investigation concerning elder abuse. It is alleged that Murray pushed her wheelchair too fast.
