Nebraska / Saban: Let's not kid ourselves

Would never happen but if Saban were to come to Nebraska, he would have that program turned around in about 3-4 years max. The thing with the B1G is that there's only room for one team to recruit the area and given that recruiting is now a national scene, Saban would bring in all the recruits and Ohio State would become Michigan in short order (2nd fiddle in the B1G). As shitty of a place that Lincoln (or all of Nebraska) is, Saban would bring them in even at age 70. He is absolutely the only person who could do this.

I'm not so sure..A name can only carry you so far. The demographics of college football has changed so much that some programs that used to be really good can't dominate in the same way, Nebraska may be the best example.
Lincoln is in the middle of no where and they are the most distance school from the league that they are in. They no loner get to recruit in Texas like they used to and the kids have a lot more "fun" places to go to school.
The players going to college these days don't remember or car about Nebraska's past.
Maybe with NIL and unrestricted transfers some of the Nebraska fat cats can over pay on endorsements to entice better players to attend the school.

This is a proud historic football program and you are simplifying this into ridiculousness. Nebraska has screwed up their coaching. Scott Frost is a very bad head coach. If you get a great coach, they will come.

Lincoln is not the hellscape people on here pretend it to be. It's a college town, like lots of other college towns. It's just across the border from IA and MO and a short trip down the highway from Omaha. Good lord....

It's a nice venue. Certainly nothing that would deter a recruit and their fanbase is, and always has been, rabid and supportive. They show up, stay late, and travel very well. The foundation is there for them to recover. It always has been. They need competent people in place with a vision to get things done.
If they want to know what that looks like, look at everything Iowa State has done and continues to do. That's what happens when competent adults with a plan are making the decisions and executing a plan, instead of children looking backward to the past.

The only place Saban would have been as successful as he is is Alabama. We are a football factory, and everything we have is better than what you have. He’ll be gone, and within 20-30 seasons, another like him or Bear will come along. All Bama has to do is secure a top 3 coach at all times, the Bama name will do the rest & make them a legend.

It is an hour+ away from a decent airport.
It is a large town, but not demographically or culturally in line with most national recruits. And, they can't sustain winning football with instate or local regional talent
The winters are brutal and start early and stay late. The arid summers aren't much better and the strong steady winds make both seasons worse.
Nebraska's blue blood advantage dried up about the same time the NCAA decided to grow teeth on enforcement in the late 90s/early 00s. Not surprising the team took a steady shite since then.
No one wants to winter in NE.
That said, they have a strong base and NIL and transfers may work to their advantage of the program gets ahead of it and maximizes the potential.
Saban would absolutely play it well there and grow a winning team, compared to what is there now

I like Lincoln, Nebraska...and I've even been there in the winter. Cold winters and snow would get old, but it's not a bad college town. We're not talking Starkville here.

People act like it's the frozen tundras of Wisconsin and it's not. The average daily high temperatures from Dec - March (coldest time of the year) range from 35 to 40 degrees. To read on here you'd think it averages -20 below during the day.

Saban didn't win a championship at Michigan State so it is definitely not a guarantee that he would win one at Nebraska. Saban is the GOAT. But unless you are telling me that he improved greatly as a Coach after he left Michigan State then it is sure not a guarantee that he would win a championship at Nebraska.

That won't stop him from getting recruits to Lincoln. They will want to play for a winner.
