Pretty amazing. All 4 could win it, and UGA did everyone a big favor knocking Florida out. Not that UGA will be an easy out but that Florida team was the most complete. That was some upset.

I doubt that many people care about college softball.

Oklahoma and Michigan both look like the favorites to win it

yea I hope the SEC keeps the title in house, but I feel those teams have a good chance of winning it even if UF was still in.

All that football money pumped into a program to rapidly rip away the dominance from the Pac-12.

Should be a case study for the NCAA of how do things correctly...or am I oversimplifying things?

Apparently you don't, but that's fine. Alabama fans certainly support, along with the other league teams'fans that regularly field good teams. For most of the past ten years Bama fans lead the nation in home attentance. This past weekend for example, Rhodes Stadium filled to capacity and overflow crowd allowed to sit on grassy areas around the field. Last year's world series in OKC broke all time attendance records and tv ratings.

I guess the adage is true that if a team wins, the fans will show up. I actually can name most of the starters for Bama's softball team, but can name only two players for Bama's baseball team. Those softball pitchers might throw underhanded, but it's a mean underhand, fast pitch often hitting around 75 mph, plus the distance from mound to plate is shorter than baseball.

Yes. And they care more about it than most schools. The capacity for the stadium is still less than 4000 and had only 3400 for the second game this weekend.

Here's the latest attendance figures I could find. Alabama and Arizona are the only two schools that averaged over 2k per game. Only 10 other schools averaged over 1k per game. So only 12 schools averaged more than 1k. 5 of those 12 schools were in the SEC.

You're probably correct. It's just a notch below college baseball.

OU/Michigan will be tough bracket.
I remember when the PAC 12 dominated softball (all best players were out west), it was only a matter of time before the SEC took over once they invested in the sport. Once the SEC teams got better it also trickled down to high school and travel teams.

Baseball will likely be 4/8 too.

That's probably more than the Braves are drawing.

Thanks for info pvilleguru. Rhodes stadium is right at 3,400 actual seats, but with the outfield grassy areas 3,900 total are allowed in. They've increased it's capacity three times since constructed in 2000. Women's sports have a tough time usually with crowds, the exceptions are almost always with a team that wins consistently, whether Tennessee in women's basketball, or Bama/Georgia in women's gymnastics. Bama women's gymnastics often leads the nation in home attendance of over 11k average, several times over 13k, outdrawing men's basketball!

I'm hoping Coach Johnson changes that situation and gets us back to the Wimp days.

Amen!!!

When I tell people that the most successful all time SEC basketball program outside of Kentucky is Alabama, they are in disbelief. No national title like UF, but when you consider SEC titles, ncaa and sweet 16 appearances, all time wins, home attendance, then a legit case is made imo.

That's because the facts don't support your statement.

LSU has more SEC titles than Bama (10-7), more NCAA tournament appearances (21-20), more Sweet 16s (9-8), more Elite Eights (6-1) and more trips to the Final Four (4-0). Florida's national titles trump all of those stats, too.

Fair enough, time flies and I didn't realize how bad Bama had gotten past years in basketball, enough to let LSU get ahead that much. Congrats to LSU.

For the record, Bama has 14 SEC men's basketball titles total, 8 regular season, 6 tournament titles.

Against all SEC teams, Bama leads in all time wins against all except Kentucky and Arkansas. Bama leads all time vs. LSU 101-67.

Johnson is a good coach and should help all of those numbers for Bama. Also, if the NCAA tourney wasn't so screwed up back in the '70s then Bama's 76 team would have made the Final Four. They were certainly good enough.

You know your basketball, high five to ya for remembering Bama in '76. Bama came into that tourney ranked number 3 in the nation if I recall correctly, and had to face number 1 Indiana in sweet 16...lost that game by five points, even out rebounded IU, better shooting percentage...but Bama's old nemesis reared it's head again in that game, where Bama lost at the free point line. If Bama had hit its season average FT percentage they would have won that game. But that is part of the game.

I'll never forget Pistol Pete putting on a record setting show in Coleman Coliseum. I miss Dale Brown, what a great coach and personality.
