100% correct

What's commonly known as the "confederate flag" was popularized in the 1960s, and was flown as a stance against de-segregation.

It's way more related to racism and bigotry than it is relevant to the civil war/cultural heritage.

Amen to that. Everything they disagree with can be eliminated by not being "politically correct"

I don't even know where to begin.

The Battle Flag started reappearing in the South after locals 'won' the Reconstruction effort. There were regular gatherings of veterans and descendants to commemorate the war. Most white Southerners only recognized Confederate Memorial Day until the World Wars.

Speaking of which, Southern American troops were given Battle Flags in WWII. In fact, the Battle Flag was hoisted over Iwo Jima.

The 1960's coincided with the 100 year anniversary of the War and was the impetus for the flag being raised in SC. I am not aware of any records that exist saying otherwise, although modern day anti-flag people make all sorts of inferences.

Not that any of this matters to those that are bleating 'hate.' Your hashtags are locked in.

I remember when Georgia decided to redo theirs. Once again, NOBODY had issues with it prior to the stupid change in early 2000's.

The first state flag is very popular in Oxford. If Mississippi were smart, we'd go back to it. Pays homage to our civil war history without being inflammatory, is aesthetically pleasing, and is not a hate symbol.

By that you mean it looks like hot dog shite. I would rather put thrusting Elvis on the flag.

It amazes me how most of those liberal tools completely miss the references in the state flags though.

If they would all just fly the original Stars and Bars, none of these mouth breathers and agitators would know the difference. The battle flag is a trigger, the actual flag of the Confederacy they have no idea what that is.

Where is the GA flag then as we all know Alabama was just territory owned in full by the Georgia land company?

If Alabama is going to have a reference to the o CUSA on our seal it should be an actual official flag, not this one whic was hijacked by the KKK and segregationists.

What an idiotic statement. Uhh. How about thousands of troops from the State of Alabama that served in the Army of Northern Virginia? The Confederate Army of Tennessee also used that battle flag. The only difference was the ANV used a square pattern and the AOT used a rectangular pattern. Also The State of Alabama flew all four Confederate Flags at the Confederate Memorial on the capital grounds( since about 1993) up until about two weeks ago. How did the State of Alabama not receive the ban from the NCAA and the PC crowd but S. Carolina did? South Carolina you got screwed all of these years.

Thank you, many make that mistake. But that isn't the stars and bars. That's the southern cross, it's a really common confusion. In fact it's almost always identified wrong.

I like the flag but the tree looks like a first grader drew it. It's very childish looking.
