quote:Practices are still monitored and controlled by the coaching staff. If a kid has sickle cell trait, he can be pulled and subbed during a practice so he can take a breather. The NCAA must place safety first for the kids, especially the sickle cell kids.
Still doesnt change the fact that practices are the most dangerous activity when it comes to football and both coaches have been against limiting practice. Seems hypocritical to their player safety argument.
Im awaiting your troll response, because bert is fat
The coaching staff dictates the pace and intensity of practices. Hell, a few years ago AU didn't even practice tackling because Chizik couldn't risk injury to his thin roster.....

Practices are meant to wear you down to the point of near exhaustion, practices put you in non typical game situations that can be dangerous, practices use repetitive hits to the same area that can cause severe fatigue and injury.
Even with the monitoring, practices are proven to be where the most injuries happen, yet coaches concerned about injuries actively fight for more practices and less regulations for them
ETA, I thought you were not naive to this little troll though, RT

Listen, I know full well why Saban is proposing rules changes. I don't know BB well enough to know his angle on this thing (sickle cell is a joke IMO.) But that HUNH/fastass offense some teams run gets Saban out of his comfort zone - he likes to play chess, not speed racing.

He better adapt or he is getting left behind.

Is such a "rule" limiting full contact practices needed in today's CFB? 40 years ago teams consisted of over 100 scholarship players. If one of your starters got hurt, a coach could just go to a backup who may have been as, or almost as good. Now, with only 85 scholarships each starter is much too valuable for a coach to lose him in practice. Thus, most teams have already limited themselves to only a few full-contact practices a week.
The downside of having less full contact practices that no one seems to talk about it that the tackling in today's game is absolutely atrocious and highly dangerous. It's disgusting to see so many guys (at all levels) just diving recklessly, head first, into other players. In addition to just bad defense, this piss-poor tackling technique can lead to concussions, leg injuries, and severe neck/spine injuries.
