The NCAA may have been better off taking Ole Miss out in a quick hit. They most likely should have accepted the self-imposed sanctions and moved on. Look, if the sanctions were decided by the basis of social media, Ole Miss would be dead, but these sanctions are obviously decided by the COI. The NCAA took too long to investigate. Now Ole Miss has a loaded gun pointing at the NCAA and the NCAA has a pointed gun aimed back at Ole Miss. It stands to reason that if you have years to look under the hood of both the NCAA and any collegiate program, you'll find a lot of bad stuff that shouldn't be mentioned. With the Miami fiasco and the McNair case, this COI may not be too quick to pull their trigger. The fallout, while obviously hurting Ole Miss could and most likely seriously hurt the NCAA for years to come. Throw in the fact that the NCAA has been getting seriously bled financially by these court cases, do you really think they're eager to face more of them? There's an attorney on the COI and I think she may be someone the entire committee will lean on. Given the NCAA's legal track record, I don't think she will be too eager to recommend they pull that trigger either. I understand even now there is currently a growing separation between the COI and the NCAA enforcement division. Pigs get fat, hogs get slaughtered! Both sides need to realize that.

The only loaded gun Ole Miss has is the one they inserted into their own mouths, and the NCAA is the one pulling the trigger.

Bro...Yall are just making me feel sad at this point. I'm literally getting depressed knowing that there are humans out there who are so easily led to the slaughter.

You seem to be of the belief that the COI is somehow a separate entity from the NCAA. The investigative arm work for the same folks as the COI. The investigators might as well be handing their findings to the guy in the next cubicle.

So, Ole Miss is found to be a bunch of cheaters. Therefore the NCAA should be frightened?

This cavalier attitude is why everyone is enjoying watching the fire.

it's called being thorough. you might want to look at the 117 page response the NCAA sent your school. I'll give you the cliff notes: you cheated (often, and in a variety of ways and including WHILE being investigated), you didn't have an atmosphere of compliance, you lacked institutional control, and you didn't exhibit "exemplary cooperation". You. Are. Screwed.

most likely seriously hurt the NCAA for years to come

all members are voluntary members and agree to abide by the rules. when you don't, all members agree that the NCAA COI is able to give punishment. Don't know how doing so would "seriously hurt the ncaa for years to come".

he NCAA has been getting seriously bled financially by these court cases

You can't be serious. It's a multi-billion dollar enterprise.

do you really think they're eager to face more of them

Ole Miss won't sue the NCAA (see point about being a voluntary member and agreeing as part of membership that NCAA COI has right to penalize when rules are broken (and you have 15 of the worst kind of violations).

Just had a song on and a few of the lines made me think of y'all. It was "In the Air Tonight" by Phil Collins and the verses were:

Well if you told me you were drowning, I would not lend a hand.

I've seen your face before, my friend, but I don't know if you know who I am.

Well I was there and I saw what you did...I saw it with my own two eyes.

So you can wipe off that grin, I know where you've been...it's all been a pack of lies.

No it won't.
I genuinely believe you still have hope; for that, I feel for you.
But this is OM's mess alone.
If anything, the way the NCAA picked apart OM's awkward and fallacious recent response made the organization look better, not worse.

Just when I think Ole Miss fans are starting to come to terms with reality this happens.

The NCAA enforcement division is separate from the COI. The committee is selected from outside the employed members of the enforcement division. They are not hired NCAA personnel and are selected from different sources. As I said, if it were social media trying Ole Miss, they would be toast. All these social media experts and their predictions are not worth a bucket of warm spit. Only the COI knows what's going on. However, the committee is already reportedly stepping back from the enforcement division. Too much muddy water in there for the committee. Of course, they could blow each other up.

Hi bud, don't know if you've been here the past few days, but the COI was informed by the NCAA investigative branch that OM demonstrated a lack of institution control over the course of five years and that their defense to these allegations were essentially horse shite.

Yes, Ole Miss can and probably will sue if the sanctions are beyond reason. Yes, the NCAA is a voluntary organization, but it can't act in an arbitrary and capricious manner nor purposely and willingly violate its own bylaws. Anyway, the most damaging litigation won't come from Ole Miss. Trust me, parts of the NCAA doesn't want to go down that rabbit hole. The investigators look to have messed up this case.

You're right about one thing: Ole Miss can sue the NCAA all they want. However, if they choose to do that after getting caught lying (in a way that has sought to damage the reputation of a former head coach and a student athlete from another member institution), they are going to be in a lot more trouble then they already are.
