FWIW, I wasn't knocking Bama...some LSU fans who don't have much association with the school might be surprised at how normal Bama actually is...

I think it is pretty safe to say that every fan base has terrible fans and every fan base has great fans.

I really thought I was going to see a lot of hostility between the LSU and Alabama fans, but I really didn't. There were a lot of Bama fans hanging out at the fraternity tailgates laughing, drinking, and talking with fellow LSU fans. I talked to a few Bama fans myself, and they were extremely nice people. Sat next to a couple of good-looking Bama girls in the Stadium who were also very nice. The only thing that I thought was stupid was how the LSU fans booed the Alabama band when they came out. Otherwise, I thought LSU stayed pretty classy the whole weekend. Anyone else at the game, what were your thoughts?

I just got back to Birmingham from Baton Rouge. My thoughts:

Pre-Game:
We set up our tents Friday evening. Saturday morning at 7AM we set up the tailgate (TV's, Grills, Boilers). We were set up next to the Dairy Services Building if you know where that is.

Once everything was set up we started with the Crown and Coke and walking around. We went to many different tailgates and everything was pretty cool. There was always some good natured ribbing and a few tiger baits here and there. (Although guess we aren't good enough tiger bait because Mike wouldn't come out and visit).

We grabbed our big Saban and Miles heads and a stick and went to college game day for a bit. Everyone was pretty cool LSU fans and Bama fans were asking for their pictures taken with them. Of course they would curse out the Saban head and a few "Dick on a stick" remarks until I informed them the picture was from when Saban was coaching at LSU, then they would just laugh.

GameTime:

Went to the stadium. Had a few LSU fans sitting in our section (was in Alabama Section). Us and them sorta poked fun at having a helicopter do the flyover. But we all agreed it was better than having a bi-plane.

Now, this is where it gets interesting. The 1st 1/2 Flew by (could have been me downing my flask like it was going to run away). (Will talk about the game play and Bama's invisible spy that was on the LSU's side line with the Initials LM later). Now this part I can honestly say. Come the 4th quarter I have never heard a stadium get as loud in my life. When LSU took the lead the place exploded (my right ear is still ringing).

I am jealous of one thing that LSU had, and that is LSU has the best Fan interaction that I have seen. The different cheers that happened when they took the lead made the place explode.

At the end of the game both Bama fans and LSU fans were in shock. There were so many ups and downs in the game it took going to the Bullfrog, then to Uncle Earl's to finally bring me down a bit. Stopped by a few tailgates and spoke with LSU fans after the game. We all agreed on one thing. Les Miles gave Bama the game (of course we happily took it).

Edit:

This is now tied at number 1 in my list of best games I have ever seen in person. (1992 SEC Championship Game against Florida is also up there)

There's a bit of arrogance that surrounds Bama fans, but I don't necessarily blame them. Kind of hard not to be that confident after the last few years...

That game was just amazing.

I still get chills thinking back on the atmosphere.

Most Bama fans I know say that BR is their favorite road trip. They've even said that in the last decade or so when we've actually won some home games against them.

It is my favorite frequent road trip. I have never had issues and most will not have issues if you follow certain rules (can be applied on any venue):

1) If you can't handle your alcohol don't get drunk.
2) Know where not to go.
3) Be able to take teasing and give it back when necessary (no personal attacks).

I didn't see any hostility/bad behavior at all. Got tiger baited more times than I can count, but it was all in good fun. I love LSU fans
