I am using 3 stats to calculate this rank. Points/Minute, Points/Yard, and Yards/Game. I am giving equal representation for all 3.

Points/Minute because it controls for TOP that defense is actually on the field. This allows you to compare a team who employs a run/TOP style offense to a quick scoring offense.

Points/Yard because it allows you to compare the bend but don't break defense to the brick wall defense.

Yards/game because that is the defacto stat everyone goes towards.

To calculate TOP that defense was on the field, I subtracted offensive TOP from 60 minutes. This is not perfect because one would need to subtract time away from kickoffs and even punts. Since I can't find that kind of stat anywhere on the web in an easy format, that's what I went with.

Everything else came from the ncaa stat page.

If you would like to make a suggestion as to how to make it more fair to compare wildly different teams, please let me know and I'll update the spreadsheet.

My attempt with SOS.

SOS was worth 10%, others 30%.

I can but SOS is a terrible stat until late in the season.

I'll see what it changes and post it.

Got to account for the shite schedules of some of the teams somehow...

Maybe break it down by division, against common opponents.

Good stuff, though.

How about Power 5 vs not-Power 5?

This really should go well. However, as I scrolled down the list I can see that it will not.

Nicely done. Looks about right to me. Guess it would just be too difficult to give and kind of weight to the teams that were played... SOS? Not that it makes that much difference.

Very good work.

I like it. Makes enough sense at least, however I reiterate what other's have said in that you have to account for strength of opponents in some way.

Weigh points/yard more and yards/game less.

Is this a fair site to grab SOS?

aggies trying hard to create a make believe rivalry with LSU. Can we have Texas, WV, or Clemson instead of the Aggies?

A suggestion: I'm not sure that points per yard is a reflection of a "bend-don't-break" attitude as much as it is an indicator of starting field position.

You're an a&m fan, so you know exactly where kaser has been starting our opponents out. That's his stat, not a reflection of defensive philosophy.

I think MSST's avg. starting field position was like the 16 yard line or something. When you start there, it's impossible to have a bad points/yard stat, no matter what the defense does.

First thing that I thought of.

If you give up an 80 yard bomb or an 80 yard 15 play drive, its still the same points/yard, but thats "bend but dont break" vs aggresive.

Also, maybe add in turnovers/play?

Yep, there are are plenty of readily available advanced statistical formulas out there that are more robust than anything the OP (or any of us) have the time and/or ability to do.
