....and I thought about this yesterday even before I posted my congrats to Bama fans for hiring him, but left it out.

My only concern is that he not only sorta reminds me of Urban Meyer's hiring at UF from Utah (he previously HC'd @small schools), but on the flip side, he sorta reminds me, too, of Harsin, who came from Boise State to Auburn, but only lasted two years.

Harsin was a Westerner. Pretty much now, so is DeBoer. Neither one had any connections to the Southern United States (big cultural difference). Just makes me wonder why Alabama would go after someone like DeBoer.

Still think it's a good hire, but only time will tell.

Harsin is a good coach, but that hire was imploded from within. Boosters never wanted him and made shite up to try and run him out of town.

If you want to make the Harsin comparison, at least put the whole thing in context.

The Harsin comparison is dumb really. Deboer literally just played for the national championship and wont he pac 12 undefeated. Also won 10 games his first year at Washington.

Harsin wasn’t coming off 25-3 at a power five with a conference title and a playoff win. I understand people’s desire to compare the two but they aren’t really comparable.

They’re very sensitive over their FCS coach

Yeah we should’ve hired one of the two guys who went a combined 0-5 against him the last two years.

To put that scenario into context would require writing a novella at the least. SECRanters lack the necessary attention-holding mindset to read such prose.

Being a cultural fit is such a dumb criticism. The question is, will he out work the coaches around him on the recruiting trail, film room, etc. Saban wasn't a cultural fit when he came to LSU. But, he went into New Orleans and visited every high school that produces high level talent on Day 1. Then he did it again and again and again all over the state. He outworked everyone at every phase.

If H2H matchups are that telling, maybe Bama should have poached Freeze from
Auburn, since he beat Saban twice at Ole Miss.

Hire a coach coming off of a 6-7 season or a guy who played for a national championship this week.

My only concern is Auburn's Strength of Schedule taking a nosedive.

Failed because he didn't have the support of the people in charge at Auburn.

Harsin was a terrible hire. Would not recruit, terrible with coaches, players, boosters, fans, high school coaches, and recruits.

Deboer is somewhat a risk, part of his success is his OC. But you have to consider him a great hire. Sark, Lanning, Novell have southern connections, thought it would be one of them. Kiffin burned bridges and Dabo has seen his star fade.

Overall, solid hire by Bama

Couple of points... Just to be devils advocate here

He's not from Bahstan ... He's not walking into a living room with that accent. He's from a small town in SD. So probably, though I don't know for sure... Just know several from SD ND... Can talk hunting fishing outdoor or farm life ALL day long.

Also our respective programs are national. A quick look at UGas roster is highly concentrated with GA products but... Has CA PA MD IL etc products. Bama has two international signees in it's latest class

There could very well be relational differences but in this day /age there are recruiting savants on each staff and being in ESPN daily is still an underrated recruiting tool...and Bama will be

Thats not all there is to it. Don't act like you know the whole story when you clearly don't.

This is such a bad argument.

Meyer had no connections to the south
Saban had no connection to the south
Les Miles had years of success had no connection to the south.
Brian Kelly has no connections to the south and he’s doing a good job rebuilding after O let the program fall apart

It doesn’t matter as much as fans think it does or as much was fans want it to.
