Is that why state's trip to Jacksonville last year had abysmal attendance whereas vandy has sold out its bowl allotment the past few years? Vandy has shown it travels well to bowl games, home games are a different story, I believe it comes down to fan base demographics

IN GENERAL that's a desire of the bowl committee - but their number one priority is selling tickets, not filling hotel rooms.

Just sayin'.

I'm afraid this is true, even though attendance at MSU's hideous performance in Jacksonville last year was awful. Vandy has sold out its allotment (and then some) for all three of its bowls in the past 5 years.

The "inverted" fan base discussed on this Stanford blog applies to Vandy:

Correct... Ticket sales to last year's Gator Bowl set records that will never be broken... Ever.

had more to do with the fact that Jacksonville is pretty far from MS and we had just been there.

We own the Liberty Bowl's attendance record and will likely break it this year.

Same thing will happen if the SEC steps in and sends us to BHam

we had just been to the gator and we were disappointed about our finish and it's a long way away. it happens to just about every fanbase at some point in bowl games.

Lol. Selling your allotment doesn't mean shite. Please stop acting like Vandy travels better than us. Let's be real here, guys.

Bragging about not selling your allotment two out of 5 years. Nice.

Exactly. And it's the very reason we are going to the Music City Bowl and they're not. They went last year and the city of Nashville and the Music City Bowl lost a lot of money because of it.

The Liberty Bowl is taking State over them because they know State will sellout of tickets. Vandy going to the Compass Bowl is on them for having shitty fans.

I think if Vandy goes to the Compass Bowl, Franklin is taking the next job offer that comes his way.

Except for 2008....and 2012. Vandy has been to 3 bowls in the last 5 years...and 2 of the 3 were the MCB.

Why...because Vandy fans don't live in Nashville. Only 30% of their student body even comes from the state of Tennessee. Less than 1/2 even come from the South. If their fans come to the bowl game, they will need to get hotels because none of them actually live in the area. Heck...they probably would be traveling further than the Ole Miss fans.

Point is, Ole Miss being in town is going to do A LOT more for the Nashville economy and the Music City Bowl finances than Vandy will.

That's interesting, since Vandy sold out their allotment last time they went to the Liberty Bowl (2011)...
