So I have been trying to figure out how LSU fans could have been so completely wrong about how our defensive ends would be underutilized by Chavis and the only answer that makes sense to me is Brick Haley:

-Brick was at LSU for most of Chavis's time there, so he alone could have been a shitty DL coach that made Chavis seem weak in that department by proxy

-Brick so far is doing a terrible job at Texas, as their defensive line has taken a step back from last season and isn't seeing contributions from talented upperclassmen.

So is Brick the missing piece that allows LSU fans to be correct while still allowing for them to be so wrong about Chavis? Only one group knows: those who had Brick without Chavis.

So MSU fans, was Brick a crappy DL coach for yall?

Week 1 Natty!

If you don't understand, review the history of their football, basketball, and baseball programs. It'll make sense. Promise.

Was Brick at Tennessee?

Didn't think so.

It must be Brick's fault Chavis can't adapt to a fricking QB draw. Oh wait Matt Mauk just scored again.

I really am starting to hope for their sake that there are no defensive disappointments at all for them this season. I really think some of them would become suicidal. I really like football and everything, but they are seriously into this, and it's simultaneously scary and sad.

Brick is a terrible D-Line coach.

That being said, while y'alls defense definitely looked good on Saturday, remember what happened after your first game last year and maybe pump the brakes until we at least learn how good or bad that ASU team is.

I'm still trying to figure out how we were all so wrong about Kenny Hill not being the GOAT.

Yep, I remember last year's romp vs South Carolina and Kenny Hill was gonna win the Heisman.

The brakes are pumped. It was a bad matchup for ASU considering their OL weakness was at tackle.

These threads aren't about A&M going to the Natty, though...

He was ok I guess. Just overshadowed by the Croom debacle.

Willie Evans led the conference and was 3rd nationally in sacks in 05
Titus Brown was 5th in conference the next year.

Actually I was asking for the opinion of MSU fans.

Didn't stop LSU fans from filling my thread with useless and irrelevant opinions though.

Thank you for the insight. I remember the Croom deal and can understand how that could overshadow everything.

To be fair Tennessee fans don't go on and on about Chavis's flaws on the DL. They warned y'all about "3rd and Chavis", and "4th Quarter Chavis", but LSU fans are the ones who added "Shitty DL Chavis" to the Chavis legend.

Well he certainly didn't help our dline by retaining his friend Brick.

I seriously don't understand where 3rd and Chavis came from. I think a more accurate saying would be "Choke Chavis" or "Up the gut Chavis" IMO. I'm glad you Ags have tempered your expectations but those DEs are flying off the ball and using technique that LSU fans have not seen in awhile. We've had physical freaks at DE with Rasco and Hunter that would play patty cake with the OTs. Brick is really that bad of a coach

Which is why I am so focused on Brick being a bad coach. That is the only way these two things can be true at the same time:

-A&M Defensive Line Got Better with Chavis
-LSU Defensive Line Got Better without Chavis (because Brick lost his job)

MSU fans alone know the score.

I don't think A&M's defensive line got any better because Chavis became DC. He's strictly a LB coach that creates/implements schemes and runs tackling/pursuit/hand fighting drills. I think Garrett and Hall are more experienced and were going against a weak OL which made them eat those OTs like supper. Having Brick leave has definitely boosted our DL big time. All you have to do is watch their stance coming off the ball vs McNeese compared to any other game from 2014.
