Some people need to calm down on the fire Mullen threads. He is not going anywhere unless State finishes worse than 4-8 and a blowout loss to Ole Miss.

If it's true that everyone's agreed not to hire Petrino, and I believe it is, then he won't be coaching any SEC team soon.

Even then they wouldn't fire him. They couldn't fire him for anything other than 0-12

No they didn't. They made their first FBS bowl game ever IIRC and their coach got hired away.

Petrino needs to be an OC somewhere. He's a sleazeball and can't recruit.

In his defense, he got some quality skill position players, some O-Line players (even though his O-line was really bad in '11 and the JLS year), and some defensive players here and there. However, that was before opposing schools got even more ammunition to use against him in recruiting.

If State's doesn't win all four games against Alcorn State,Troy,Bowling Green, and Kentucky Mullen's seat would be on fire.

Slive sent out a statement that other SEC schools were encouraged not to pursue his services. So that is as good as blackballed.

If there's one thing that brings the two Mississippi schools together, it's our disdain for the coast trash school in Hattiesburg.

Petrino's two biggest weaknesses:

Recruiting, especially after cycle-gate.

Assistants.

Nobody worth a shite will work for the guy, as we all found out last season when his assistants had to coach a team.

I agree. He will have to rebuild his image which will take longer than just 1 exceeding expectations at Western Kentucky will do. I think Slive has made sure every SEC team stays away from Petrino.

I think that would mainly depends on where he lands. Neither Louisville nor Arkansas have ever been perennial power houses when it comes to landing the high quality star players. It's nothing against them, they've survived. I'd just like to see Bobby Petrino recruit at a school like Auburn, Texas, etc...

Besides, Bobby Petrino is a good enough coach to hire mainly recruiters in key positions. He could take a risk on a guy like Trooper Taylor, so long as he made sure discipline was maintained within the program.
