Has anyone put forward 1998 Tennessee?

They beat 4 top ten teams en route to an unbeaten championship season.

Lost to Florida State.

What does the thread title say?

So the thread was crafted so that 1996 Florida would be eligible for discussion?

That's rhetorically dishonest, frankly.

just because they were undefeated doesn't mean they were the most dominant.

They escaped Syracuse by 1, beat UF in overtime, beat AU by 1 possession, needed a miracle to beat Arkansas, and beat a 20something MSU in the SECCG by 10. Hardly the "most dominant".

Not bad.

Just think what those scores would have been if Tubs had that killer instinct like Supperior, instead of the all too common tubbershell.

True, but I would consider going undefeated as a "necessary condition" for being considered "most dominant."

So you're looking at the following choices:

1992 Alabama
1998 Tennessee
2004 Auburn
2009 Alabama
2010 Auburn

Did I miss one?

I realize that's been a point of contention in this thread, but I disagree.

A team could beat the #1-10 ranked teams (hypothetically obviously, since that schedule coudlnt' happen) by 50 points, then lose 1 game by 1 point in OT. They would still be an all-timer of a team even though they weren't undefeated.

I don't think for the topic of this discussion that undefeated needs to be a qualifier.

You're missing more than one actually.

Well then we'll just have to disagree.

This is the key. I'd have to believe 08 Florida would beat 96 Florida because of the improvement of the conference. Florida put up so many points in the 90s because they were throwing the ball against teams designed to stop the power-run. They would've never scored that many points in the 2000's with the same offense.

Very good point. The SEC was down in the 1990s.
