On paper Arkansas hired a bigtime coach. In reality, they just hired a big coach.

No, I dont. Ive repeatedly said we overpaid, which we unfortunately had to do or he might have left for USC.

This is you defending it.

This is SO true. They are like VaTech at best, but they think they are like Bama and LSU

Site is owned and operated by a taterhead and a suckeye. I'm surprised they didn't have SCAR at #1.

Is it delusional when we really do run this conference?

You said we all were defending paying him that much a year. I do not defend it, based on his current accomplishments it was too much. I simply acknowledge the fact that overpaying was the lesser of two evils in this case. The only alternative is saying we should have let him walk, and then what?

That's defending it.

Not defending it would be arguing that you should have let him walk. Not that it matters, but you just keep saying that you don't defend paying Sumlin that much while simultaneously justifying it. You're speaking out of both sides of your mouth.

But you defend paying a coach $5 million a year who has never won a conference championship in his career.

Hell yeah, I will defend the shite out of that!! I hope we overpay every goddamn coach we have going forward.

Because eventually coaches at poorer but more established locations are going to go "why they frick am I here fighting for an extension when I can leave and go to A&M and get paid millions more than Alleva ever offered me!!!"

That is how you move up in the world...

What's ironic is that Alabama fans were being lambasted for being delusional back at the end of the Shula era for daring to think we could ever hire someone better than Shula. People laughed in our faces for actually thinking that Saban would leave the Dolphins for Alabama. When Alabama fan's "delusions" about luring Saban away were actually found to be well reasoned Alabama fans then became "delusional" about for expecting Saban to actually win big. 3 national titles in 5 years later it's somehow still "delusional" for Alabama fans to expect to complete at the highest level. You have to marvel at just how little the author seems to understand about the concept of delusion.
