I’d rather be locked in a cage with a hungry grizzly for 24 hours than spend a day in the area around Legion Field

I once was tempted to stop and get something to eat in Jackson Miss on my way to New Orleans and my GPS begged me not to do it. After referring to Central Jackson City as the Black Hole, I quickly realized she was trying to save my life and navigated to safety. Thank you, GPS.

Walker county is not a good place to be a black person. Tons of drugs up there in north Alabama.

It doesn’t have shite on west Atlanta, parts of Houston, Memphis, “inside” Jackson, Chicago or Detroit.

The bad parts of Mobile are as bad as anywhere in the US and I’ve seen most of them.

You need to put Birmingham on that list too because while if you stay in the right areas it’s one of the safest places you could visit, the bad areas are right there with anyone from a violent crime perspective.

Arguing crime rates based on reported stats only tells half the story because many of those cities cook the books with regard to their reported crimes.

West Central Alabama has an interesting history. The Free State of Winston (neighboring county to Walker) was an area made up of the whole or parts of Winston, Blount and Cullman counties that supported the Union in the Civil War. They very neatly seceded from Alabama. The CSA arrested many citizens and several county leaders and representatives spent the war in prison.

I have done business in Walker County and this part of the state for years and it really is different from other areas. It’s a vibe that’s hard to describe. I’ve never felt unsafe, but then again I’m not involved in meth and fentanyl dealing and I’m usually in and out of client accounts and on my way before the sun goes down.

There was a sign on a road entering Walker co which read “Don’t let the Sun go down on your black arse in Walker county .”
I didn’t believe it but then during the mid 70s I worked with a guy from Walker co and he assured me it was true.

Atlanta for volume alone. Walker County is the kind of place where your body will disappear. There are rural parts of MS that's similar.
I was born & raised in Marengo County but have family from Walker County.

There's something different about Walker County people. They aren't quite rednecks, hillbillies, or coonasses. Just a different breed, very clannish, non-welcoming and damned mean.

NOLA is not bad

You never realize just how much of a dump New Orleans is until you leave. I lived in Nashville right after the hurricane then L.A. for 11 years. I grew up in a “middle class” neighborhood in New Orleans that would be considered a so/so area in L.A. and a downright shite hole by Nashville standards.

New Orleans is a dangerous, poor, dirty, ugly dump. Cultcha is only cool in high school.

I lived in memphis for about a year back in 22. I walked around all over memphis by myself, at night often. Never had an issue. There were some times i felt sketched out, but never any incidents.

I challenge you to do that in Nola.

There was a similar sign in Comanche County Texas when I was younger. Also, Comanche and Hamilton County were the only two counties in Texas that had no black residents in the whole county. This was in the late 80's

Walker County really? Jasper is a fine town. I could name plenty of places worse in Mississippi, South Carolina and Georgia.

And hell even Alabama. Ever hear of Prichard, Alabama? was lovely when I grew up there and Chickasaw in the 70's. Now it's a shithole.
