Do you agree with this assessment?
And if not Kevin Sumlin, who gets less out of their talent?
Here's the excerpt from Mizzou beat writer Dave Matter's on-line chat...
Q: Are you a little surprised at how poorly the SEC is playing in bowls to this point... it appears the thoughts that it's Alabama and mediocrity are correct. S Carolina will lose by 40+ against S Fla today.

A: I'm not surprised. Mississippi State wasn't very good this year and Texas A&M folds after October. Is there a coach in the country who seems to get less with more than Kevin Sumlin? So much talent on that team, and not just on offense. They've got the likely No. 1 pick in the 2017 NFL draft at defensive end. A solid, veteran quarterback. Loads of talent at running back and receiver. An NFL left tackle. And that's three straight seasons of 8-5.

LSU with all their talent, prestige, tradition, etc was able to attract only Ed Orgeron as a HC.
That is far less with more while giving oneself months of extra time to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.

Even though he owns Bert big time Sumlin has not impressed me with his coaching at A&M.
Its not just the not getting enough from the talent its the yearly slides at the end of the year.
Once is happenstance, twice is coincidence, three times or more is a pattern. There is a pattern of Sumlin's teams at A&M sleepwalking their way through the second half of the season.

Absolutely.
No coach gets less results with more money than Sumlin.

Well, your reporter was wrong. We didn't lose by 40+. It was a tied game going into overtime. Lost by 7.

If you think LSU conducted a national search for a coach your a moron. Lsu offered Jimbo fisher!! when he said no they looked at herman. When he wanted big money they said no. Herman probably would have passed and waited for texas anyway. That was the LSU coaching search after that fell threw it was Coach O.

I have no problem with what he says-it is true. I wonder if he wrote that in a safe space at Missouri.

Whatever makes you feel better about the fact LSU fired miles early in the season to let all know the job was available while Ed O was the best available for LSU.

And yet ... Orgeron beat the Hogs like a drum on the road.

Wrong. LSU fired Miles early in the season because the atmosphere, inside & outside the program, was beginning to get toxic & LSU needed to do what it should've done last November & fire Miles. It had nothing to do with "letting all know the job was available". The 2 people who needed to know the job was open, Fisher & Herman, were aware of the opening. Unfortunately, our nincompoop AD didn't have a plan B or a search committee in place after it became apparent Fisher was never going to leave FSU & Herman was all in on his dream job.

How does the LSU ad still have his job? I don't know, he could be the best ad as far my knowledge of ad's goes, but it sure seems like the man has no backbone.I can go years without hearing much about ad's, but not this guy. He just makes blunder after blunder. LSU should have fired more than coaches.

quote:Let me educate you since you don't know the facts. LSU's AD tried to fire Les at the end of the previous season. LSU's AD didn't screw this up; LSU president screwed this up. Les Miles wasn't fired early in the season. Les Miles was fired many seasons too late.

I may be the only one, but I really like the Orgeron hire for LSU and think he will be very successful. Coaches mature and a coach doesn't have to work everywhere to be a great hire, he just has to work great where hired. People slam him because of his history at Ole Miss, but how many coaches can go into Ole Miss and play against 3 schools with major resource advantages (LSU, Auburn, Bama), 1 with equal resources (Arky) and 1 that's your rival who will always play you tough (State) and have great success (apart from using a massive network of bag men)?
We stunk this year, but seeing the way the LSU players identify with and play for O when they murdered us is what you need when you are at a school that is sitting on a recruiting hot bed. Top 10 talent + 100% motivated players = a good formula for succeess. He wouldn't be a great hire at A&M or Tenn because of the cultural difference, but I really believe he will get LSU into the playoffs in the next 5 years.

And Orgeron beat both Arkansas and Texas A&M handily, so whats that say about your programs?
Posted on 1/2/17 at 10:48 am to Blanky6715
It says it is the bar for LSU as a program and miles job came into question when he as unable to do so.

Time will tell about Coach O. Though Arkansas, with all that WalMart and Tyson money, gave an extension and an eight-figure buyout to Bert.
