I agree with the OP in one regard. I don't think Alabama and Florida would be successful, if they did it the "right" way like Mizzou.

Be careful throwing stones…many of the programs who have been caught are only caught cause they sit in a state where another program is turning them in. Now that Mizzou is SEC and going head to head with other SEC schools expect for things to get more difficult. Beat out UT and see what happens.
I lived in NC for years and listened to them talk about the integrity of college athletics and how UNC played by the rules. In an effort not to be thought an idiot by arguing with an idiot I always just smiled and turned the other cheek. Knowing they were fools.
