I think Lock may have a case of taking Mauk's job if Mauk doesn't get his shite together.

Lock is very talented.

It would take a lot for the switch to be made, but totally agree that Lock looked like the better player yesterday.

It's a nice problem to have.

A 15-4 starter with a clearly superior player waiting in the wings.

As I told a Tenn fan yesterday, he's the best QB in the '15 class.

As Mauk again proved yesterday he can sling the 40 yard bomb on a dime, but Lock has a dimension to his game that Mauk doesn't, that being the short middle.

This is Gary "loyalty" Pinkles call so of the possible ways Lock gets the starting job, Mauk getting benched for him is the least likely.

Did you see that UCLA freshman? He can't hold Lock's jock.

Lock is the better player, and everyone knows it.

No change will be made unless we start losing due to poor QB play.

Mauk played fine yesterday though. He had two TDs dropped. He really only made two WTF type of plays which is improvement for him.

The scariest part of that play yesterday was the fact that Lock spotted a walkon white kid from smallville that is our 3rd RB option. Of course he dotted the eye for Hunt who bear hugged the ball and limped in at about 1mph almost getting ran down from the opposite side of the field too.

Lock is the real deal, he has the complete game, if he hadn't committed to Mizzou on day 1 and not even entertained other options, he would have been the #1 5star recruit in the nation. Sure glad he was a Mizzou kid.

Is there any way Pinkel could use both QBs? I get that Mauk has seniority over Lock, but I think if Lock is ready right now he should get some snaps in, especially early.

He's modified his "we do what we do, we have a system" by putting the backup QB in, earlier in the game for two series.

His problem is going to be that when it's clear the backup QB is the best player on the field that day, explaining to the team and fans how "we do what we do- best player plays" doesn't apply in this case.

Lock played yesterday. 3 series, I think. 1 in the first half

Does anyone else in the country employ Pinkel's "one series a half or a game" for the heir apparent at QB?

It's worked surprisingly well for him in breaking in new quarterbacks.

who was the first QB he did that with? Ie played him a series BEFORE mop up time. Franklin I think.

as dude on TV pointed out, makes absolutely no sense to burn Locks redshirt without him having a legitimate chance to start either later this year or beginning next year. So given that being the case, how can there NOT BE a QB controversy? We all know there is one, and the second Mauk has a series where he struggles mightily it's going to be like running up a giant red flag. Hell he struggled against SEMO for a good bit, so really we don't have to wait.

I'm NOT simply dumping it all on Matty though, the entire offense often doesn't look like it's ready to play and can barely get the snap off under the wire, how much of that is Matty and how much the rest of the team/coaching staff?

You tell me.

Lock looked like a grizzled veteran yesterday in the short time he was on the field. His pocket presence, awareness, and decision-making looked fantastic. He did not throw one ugly ball. As others have said, he is obviously the best qb on our team RIGHT NOW and will end up the best qb in Mizzou's history. I whole-heartedly believe that he will lead us to our first SEC championship.

You guys had a good game yesterday btw. I saw that high snap in the first series and thought, "Oh God, here goes Florida," but you guys actually settled in quite nicely.

Amazing what a competent offensive staff can do. We actually saw our TE's catching passes!

The QB spot is Mauk's to lose. It's up to him to keep it. Maybe having Lock pushing him will be good for his game. Bun I definitely see a qb controversy setting up for 2016.

Florida looks much improved. Congrats!

Same ole Mauk

He panics when NO ONE is near him, and forces himself into the sideline and has no where to throw it.

But the Oline was not good yesterday, not at all.

And Missouri has no Punt or Kick returner, and no change of pace back. Marcus Murphy is desperately missed.

Oline was bad bad bad.

Penton looked like he'd never returned kicks ever.

Brad Smith and Chase Daniel.

Was there a legit QB controversy in any of the other "series a half" back-ups to the starter?

If there ends up being one now it will be because Mauk fails or Lock dominates.

With all that said, I can roll either way on preserving Lock's redshirt. Keeping it would have been nice, but using it gives Pinkel options while keeping the pressure on Mauk to perform at a high level.

I'll worry about Lock leaving in 2018.
