I don't think its a secret that Baker is on LSU's short list to replace House. Will we be able to steal him? IDK but we will see.

He was at LSU for one season as a LB coach and he was outstanding. Every LBer improved a ton under his watch.

BUT

How is he as a DC? What are things you liked? What are things you didn't like?

My only exposure to him as a DC was him failing at Miami and then watching Jayden go off on his defense this past year. I do not hold the Jayden performance against him because Jayden did that to everyone's defense.

I mean you scored 49 on his defense….Is that what you really want?

In today's college football a great offense beats a great defense every time so not being able to stop Jayden and co isn't as huge of a knock as it seems.

If I am looking at that particular matchup in depth from a Mizzou POV, I don't expect him to shut down Jayden but I would expect him to be able to manufacture a few more stops than they did. Just holding him under 40 would have been desirable but sometimes the Jimmy's and Joe's matter more than the X's and O's.

He has been a mixed bag at Mizzou. First half of 2022 season, our D was stellar. Second half of the season the SEC had enough film on him the D went to shite.

This year the D was not good to start the year. No way around it. It got better as the year went on but still had a piss poor performance vs Florida and a mediocre day vs UGA. There were good performances vs South Carolina, Tenn and Arkansas. By far the best performance all year was against tOSU but a lot of that might have been because their OL was dogshit.

Overall, if i had to guess i'd say Baker is probably a top 20-30 DC nationally right now. The question is whether he is going to adjust to everyone having more data on him now and improve? If not, he'll start falling pretty fast. Personally I dont think he is worth backing up the brinks truck for at this point. He needs more experience and proven record.

This is my worry. LSU fans are all gung ho on getting Baker but I have yet to see any evidence that he is a top DC. He has Pete Golding written all over him. Good recruiter that players love but so so results on the field.

BK fired him as LB coach at LSU.

Making LSU's short list makes perfect sense...it's dysfunctional LSU.

BK let him go because the DC he hired wanted to coach LBers. Its not like he had him as DC and didn't retain him.

Yep. Absolute cabbage. He belongs at a much lesser school like Mizzou. Y'all should look elsewhere.

Could we interest you in a gently used, but widely abused Matt House in trade?

I like him a lot. I wasn’t really disappointed with the LSU game. One of those scores was a pick 6 and our best d end got himself stupidly ejected before the 4th quarter. He uses a lot of guys which I like. I think he also learns from his mistakes. Talked about playing Tennessee differently, performed better against K state, if you gave him another crack at LSU he’d have a better plan. He’s not a do what we do guy he actually makes adjustments according to players and personnel. I think he’s just okay at in game adjustments but man if he gets a second crack at a team he’s really good at making adjustments. If I was LSU I’d consider it an excellent hire.

He's been pretty damn good for Mizzou. I don't know how much of difference he is at recruiting, not saying he's bad just haven't heard how vital he is. As for schemes, he's been very good IMO. I like his aggressive style but that's partly because our corners are good enough to hold up. He's gotten a raise last year and this year so he knows we value him. LSU has the money to pay him even more so I guess we'll see whether they want him bad enough.

I like him, but keep in mind that in College it's often about the Jimmy's & Joe's rather than the X's & O's.

Well liked at Mizzou for the most part. My gut says he is staying put. If he is to consider it, it would not be just a financial decision. Family is happy in Como despite the LA ties. His D kicked Ohio States arse with a bunch of 3 star guys. KAD was a WR recruit and is now on his way to the NFL as a DB.

LOL…LSU is dysfunctional enough to kick y’all’s arse on your field. 10-4 &10-3 in BK’s first two years is definitely dysfunctional.

Jaylon Carlies was also a 3* WR out of HS and he's leaving early for the NFL as a safety. Baker was his position coach.

Hopefully Mizzou can keep him. That side of the ball has had three DCs in four years under Drink. Need some continuity there.

He’s a really good DC. He had 2 4* defensive players that were upperclassman sophomore to senior. 1 was a All-SEC LB and the other had 2 tackles.

With the talent LSU has he would be a top DC.
