An otherwise-quiet Wednesday afternoon in May got interrupted when Missouri announced it has dismissed redshirt sophomore Marcus Loud from the football team.

Loud, at 6-foot-4 and 260 pounds, had been groomed alongside Charles Harris to replace standouts Shane Ray and Marcus Golden at defensive end.

Loud played in all 14 games in a limited role last season. His dismissal is surprising news for Mizzou’s defensive line, and details of the decision have yet to emerge.

Walter Brady and Rocel McWilliams, projected as backups after spring practice, now could compete for a starting spot at the position. Another option is to move Rickey Hatley, who exited spring practice ahead of Josh Augusta at defensive tackle, back to defensive end.

Jesus, another three star defensive lineman from Texas that Mizzou had ready to start in the SEC.

I am kinda amazed yall didn't pitch a FIT when the perm rival was Arky instead of us.

Sucks. That's not a deep area for the defense this year.

He's been a headcase since arriving with the team, but we needed him all the same.

Time to revive the "switch to 3-4" discussions.

Damn, big loss for us. Winning the East will be even tougher.

Loud had a ton of potential, but was never able to reach it. He was a bit of a head case from the start, but he grew up in a very bad part of Houston and had to deal with a lot growing up, so that probably had a lot to do with it. Luckily we have a 4* juco DE coming in named Marcell Frazier who was projected to compeat for a starting role who can hopefully step in. The strength of our DL was always going to be our inside guys this year, but this sure doesn't help.

You hate to have to cut someone loose at a position of need, but if we had to lose one I'm glad it's him.

From all appearances he was a dime who thought he was a dollar. A loose cannon who wasn't a Mizzou type.

Adios.

We cut DGB, we'll cut him too. Doesn't matter who you are if you play for Coach Pinkel, he will enforce the rules and kick you off the team if necessary, even if you're the #1 recruit in the country. Sucks from a competitive standpoint but speaks volumes about the integrity of our program.

Some speculation that it may be grades and that he may be eligible to return.

Yep, it could be something as simple as a DUI. Pinkel won't tolerate that kind of nonsense.

Where did you see that?

This is bad. No way to spin it. Loud had a great spring and was looking like he could break out.

Now we have Harris, Frazier (JUCO) and 3 RSFR. We basically can not afford to lose anyone to injury at DE now.

Wondering if Biesel may put his hand in the dirt now, or as was mentioned we may be playing a lot more 3-4 than we thought.

frick.
