Meh, switch divisions, go to no set cross division rivals, or set up one of those pod proposals. I'm pretty OK as long as Arkansas gets to play A&M, Ole Miss, and Mizzou either every year or close to it.

But SEC WON'T split same-state schools.

UGA, UF, USC, & UK all have in-state ACC rivals, so that puts us with only 2 games open for scheduling while the other 10 have 3 openings.

Id like to see Auburn get back its historical rivalries with Florida and Tennessee by moving east. We could keep our game with Bama as a permanent rival. We are already moving the leghumpers to earlier in the season, so I dont see this as being a huge deal.

frick the gumps. UT can go on a rotation with them.

Auburn’s played UF more times than any other SEC opponent outside of UGA (the last time I checked). We were rivals with Tennessee as well before the SEC implemented changes post SEC expansion. Our natural rivals have always been in the East.

No, Auburn isn't as good as Missou. Would weaken the East.

Reseeding would only occur once every ten years.

So if you go 80-0 over 10 years you are number 1.

If two teams are 40-40 in the SEC, head to head is first tie breaker.
Over a ten year period, you do play everybody at least once.

You would use the ten year data set.

Not one season record.

In a decade it’s unlikely for teams to have same record.

It seems that there are a few teams in the West that you have trouble beating, and one that you've never been able to beat.

vs Auburn 1-10
vs LSU 2-18
vs Bama 4-10
vs A&M 0-5
vs Arkansas 10-13
vs State 8-7
vs Ole Miss 8-8

That's 7-43 against the better teams in the West, and 26-28 vs the other three.

I realize this'll get blasted for being a bad idea that'll never happen but as far as preserving traditional rivalries you could put the " Big 6" in one division and the other teams in another division. That way it protects AU-Bama, AU-UGA, UT-Bama, LSU-Bama, etc and re adds other traditional rivalries AU-UT, AU-UF, etc.

As far as the 8 game schedule is concerned 6 of the Big 6 conference schedule would be themselves the 7th one would be a rotating game with the other division and the 8th one could be optional either a permanent cross division opponent like UT/Vandy, LSU-A&M, etc or teams could opt to add another OOC P5/ upper tier G5 game instead.

As far as the other division is concerned 7 of the 8 conference games will be themselves and the 8th one will be either a permanent game like Vandy and A&M's schedule would be or teams could opt for a rotating game or add in a OOC P5/ upper tier G5 game instead of a 8th conference game.

Sorry for the wall of text

It makes sense honestly...don't shake up everything. This move balances it out more. Adds another power to the East(so we have four of the big six), which makes it a bit uneven. Aggies are building up though so they may be able to replace Auburn in that slot of challenging every few years.

And with this the Bama vs. Tenn and Auburn vs. UGA games happen every year so there's no need to have permanent opponents across Divisions, so SEC teams could finally play 9 SEC games, making it far more likely to play all teams more often and make it feel more like a conference, and allow UGA fans to get to Baton Rouge more than once a decade.

I'm hoping that the plan is to add NC State and Virginia Tech and then move Vandy and Missou to the West so that it geographically makes sense, but if we keep the cross Divisional rivalries it still screws up the possibility of playing other teams more often.

SEC will not split Tn./Vandy...so you'll have to send Ky. west.

If 16 teams, pods will more than likely the way to go because scheduling will be easier to coordinate. Keeping 2 divisions makes 7 games alone before playing the other side. A 9 game schedule takes 8 years to play the other side H/A. 4x4 paired pods does that in 6.
