Because it is a Wizard or a Beaver?

Missouri is paying their football coach too much as is UF at this juncture. They are also paying their basketball coach too much though.

Dan Mullen is the highest paid state employee in Mississippi. It is debatable to consider him a "coach".

Gainesville and the surrounding towns are the most low-brow, redneck places in the country. It's hysterical.
Gainesville isn't particularly, but the rest is true.
Gainesville is college students, a bunch of hippie burnouts, a few hipsters, and the usual liberal/intelligentsia types who basically do the day-to-day and get to pretend they run things as long as they don't get on the nerves too much of the good ole boy network that actually runs Alachua county. That probably describes more than a few college town in the SEC though to some degree or another.

I wonder how many times this map is going to be posted either in here or the OT.

I grew up in the boot heel and other areas of Southeast Missouri. I have immediate family in Red Banks, MS, Knoxville, TN, and Slidell, LA and I would say where I grew up is just as southern in culture as any of the three. Not all of Missouri is that way, but most of the state is rural and agricultural
This is probably pretty accurate, although I would say that those of us who grew up in Northern Missouri (I grew up in the NE Corner) are also rednecks, we're just Yankee rednecks. We do grow corn after all (serve it with a side of meth); I had no idea cotton, rice and tobacco grew in Missouri until I was in HS and I don't think I've ever seen grits on a menu north of Columbia.

neither one of them make a good BBQ though
Never been to Missouri, obviously. There are things to criticize about Missouri, but the BBQ is not one of them.

Because the state of Mississippi has a law that no state employee can make more than the governor. Technically the state pays Merlins $250,000 and the rest of his $2.5 MM salary comes from a private foundation, originally named the Bulldog Foundation.
Same law says that state employees can't have a contract longer than a governor's term - so that's why Mullen and Freeze have four year contracts that get extended every year.

Lived there for 4 months one summer in Springfield
Only good thing about the place was the huge Bass Pro Shop and the cheap tickets to Royals games because they were so terrible. Besides that the whole state sucked

You just admitted to only being in a small part of the state, then you say the whole state sucks. Seems like you're just an angry fella.. your opinion shouldn't be considered.

I traveled the whole state coaching, went all over Missouri, Kansas, Iowa, Nebraska. The whole thing is a big memory of corn fields

How do you conclude that Missouri is paying their football coach too much?

Haha, okay now we really know you're lying. If the BBQ comment wasn't a dead giveaway.

Oh, I thought you might have a good point up your sleeve.
Man has more wins the last 7 years than 96% of college coaches. Is about to become the winningest coach in school history. And currently 9-1. He's not overpaid. Don't lump him in with your mess of a coach.

How many BCS bowls he make in those 7 years? conference titles? Heisman candidates?
Posted on 11/15/13 at 2:18 pm to Rodeonaut
This is what I would expect to hear from most Missouri fans. It's like USC fans talking about Spurrier.

Count the trophies and you'll have your answer.

None of what you're getting at proves he's overpaid. He's not overpaid by college football standards.
But, all rational college fans know that Missouri earned a BCS game, and he has had a Heisman candidate.
