Sounds like one of the two groups mentioned just doesn't do their work or gets bad grades. But that's racist, right?

It's because they will let anyone into college in MS. They do the bad students (both white and black) a disservice. There are some people that are not meant for college for a plethora of reasons and that's ok.

They kind of do have a point about the flag.

They need to realize that's the fault of our incompetent arse state government and not the university though.

I'm part Indian but mostly white. Would I be OK to enter the black only (other minorities if you must) lounge?

Just convert JSU, Valley, and Alcorn to satellite (safe space) campuses of MSU, Ole Miss, and USM.

The state definitely has too many universities. I have no idea how some of them are still around.

Yep.

Mississippi as a state has the highest percentage of African Americans. There are multiple counties that are 90%+ AA.

PLUS

Ayers settlement

EQUALS

Highest percentage of AA population in SEC at MSU.

ETA: Just looked it up. 7 of the 10 blackest counties in the country and 15 of the top 20 are in Mississippi. 4 in Alabama and 1 in South Carolina to close out the 20.

I think it was a requirement for MS to spend more on HBCs in MS.

I may be off on this one.

Not only this, but all public universities have to have the same entrance requirements. When it was handed down, MSU and Ole Miss were at a 20 ACT and headed up.

Now, you can get in full admission at MSU and Ole Miss with a 14 ACT, and if you can't get a 14, you have to take a 9 week long summer course, which cannot be failed, in order to get in. And at least at MSU (not sure at Ole Miss), MSU has pledged that no Mississippian will be denied based on non-ability to pay.

Seriously a pulse will get you in. Its terrible.

If I identify as a black guy can I enter the safe space? What if I'm offended by safe spaces can I make them go away?

I'm a slightly left-leaning middle of the road guy politically speaking. And this sounds absolutely absurd to me.

n 1975, the late Jake Ayers Sr. filed a federal lawsuit on behalf on his son Jake Jr., a student at Jackson State University, and other students at Mississippi's black, public four-year colleges. Ayers and other plaintiffs claimed black colleges did not receive the same funding as predominantly white colleges and that the black universities could only be made more enticing to students with increased state funding. The Justice Department later joined Ayers and the other plaintiffs in the lawsuit.

oday's settlement calls for Mississippi to provide $246 million over 17 years for academic programs at the three black universities. Another $75 million will be spent on capital improvement projects over a five-year period, and $70 million in public endowments and $35 million in private endowments will be provided for the institutions over a 14-year span. In addition, Mississippi will recognize Jackson State University as a comprehensive higher education institution and designate Mississippi Veterans Memorial Stadium in Jackson as the home of the JSU Tigers.

Mississippi had argued that it was making a sufficient attempt at integration by enforcing race-neutral school admission policies. However, the Ayers case prompted the federal government to sue then-Gov. Kirk Fordice, and the Supreme Court ruled in 1992 that the state had to do more to integrate its higher education system. The court, noting that historically white colleges required higher minimum test scores of its students than historically black colleges, said the state appeared to rely on standardized test scores that discriminate against blacks. Mississippi revised its admission standards, but various black citizens maintain the revisions are not enough. The Supreme Court has refused to hear the challenges to Mississippi's revised college admission plans and those disputes have continued in the state's lower courts.

Everyone's right, Mizzou is where the racial tensions began and have finally reached the great racial sanctuaries of Universities in the South. You should all be thankful that our incompetent administration gave your schools the blueprint for how not to handle these racist BLM groups. You are welcome.
