Is he a Fire man? In reality that is the person who loads the fuel on a locomotive. They were called firemen. If he is referring to himself as someone who is in the fire service then the proper term is firefighter. No genuine firefighter refers to themselves as fireman. Except maybe a volunteer who doesn't know any better.
