Moorhead is actually a much better candidate than Mullen was, he has worked with lots of folks and has a bit of HC experiance. Mullen spent his entire career under Meyer and it was questionable if he could survive on his own.

That being said there is no way to tell how it will turn out

This is rich right here.

In the 5 years before Mullen showed up he helped take Utah on an undefeated season, won two SEC titles, and two national titles.

Moorhead and the cranium don't arrive with anywhere near that type of resume.

Silver, seriously, you don't sound like you truly understand this hire. He is an offensive guru and unlike Mullen who promised more and more spread each year, got stuck with same shite. Don't get me wrong, Mullen did a lot of good things but remember one thing, Mullen did not recruit. Yes he evaluated talent in bulldog camp but the citisism of him was always how he only recruited QB's and kept in touch with them. This was a slam dunk hire.
Moorhead comes to MSU highly praised in the coaching profession as a tireless working little sleep guy who competes with a chip on his shoulder. Great hire who knows offense. Ask the Penn State fans. They are devestated losing him.

You have been here long enough to know that he is not a State fan.

Cohen rather not get played by some hc for pay raise at another school. He knows how to identify quality coaches and waste no time pursuing them.

Burt was available. Not impressed.

Fantastic! At least we aren't Ole Miss.

Yes, pound for pound I believe we have one of the cheapest coaches in the SEC. Definitely moved up a few spots since AR fired Bielema.

Hopefully you will find out what sarcasm is.

Cohen did an incredible job. Moorhead was a great hire and if he gets some recruiters he’ll do great. How long he’ll want to live in Starkville, I don’t know. Not a knock on State there, but going from the northeast to the south, especially Mississippi is a bit of a culture shock. Not just for him, but his family.

think Moorhead is a good coach but I guess I just thought MSU would shoot for a bigger, more established name. Tennessee may be embarrassing right now but they went all in

So we get Leach, miles, Charlie strong, or if we are lucky Sumlin.

Best they can do is what mullen did. Which is great, but they aren't winning championships here.

If you really want to shoot for the stars and win championships you have to take a risk. You go with upside.

Moorhead has a lot of upside

Because they have low expectations, didn’t get rejected, and he’s an unknown.

Lol

Mullen had a NC and a Heisman winning QB under his belt as an OC.

Mullen was the better hire and it's not even close.

Mullen, Moorehead....both midwest natives. Midwest produces the best coaches, don't they?

I think mullen was a better candidate, but there was a lot of questions about if he could do it without Meyer. It was an unknown.

Moorhead has proven he can do it with different staffs

He's from Pittsburg, a blue collar working state. One of the things Cohen said about Moorhead was that conversation. Moorhead felt just fine coming to Mississippi. Now, if he does big things you might be right. Four or five years down the line he'd probably want a job in Pitt or nearby but who knows.

I just hope State fans are not setting themselves up for disappointment.

He may turn out to be a great hire but until he actually coaches a year or two as a head coach, there is no way to know if he is good or not. Some people make great coordinators but not great head coaches.

Look at Mac. Bama fans loved him as their OC. Florida was ready to kill him as their head coach. On paper, he was a solid hire. Everyone thought he would do well at Florida. Sure. He won the east a few times but let's be realistic. Nobody was worth a shite in the East then.

Cohen did the same with the baseball coach search. Bypassed all the big names and pulls a rabbit out the hat with Cannizaro who kicked arse in his first season.
