Gaaa.... after seeing so much misinformation all over the various football boards, here's the truth about what she's wearing:
The Miss America contestants have a fund raising parade called the "Show Us Your Shoes" parade. The gown and shoes will be worn by Miss Alabama during this parade... in which the whole point is to pretty much go over the top. Other state contestants will be doing something similar for their state - but in this case, Ms. Champion picked a dress that outlines the U of A. The dress designer also designed several other dresses that she will be wearing during pageant week.
A couple of years ago, the Miss Alabama contestant wore a dress and shoes that emphasized peanuts. EVERY contestant from EVERY state will have some sort of related state tourism theme. Miss Hawaii may be wearing a hula skirt, and so forth.
We've won a bunch of football championships lately, and the Miss Alabama is a Univ of Alabama student. This dress will be worn for a specific event and purpose, and is only one of probably 20 dresses she will will take to the national pageant. This choice in no way reflects poorly on her IMHO.
Finally, the photoshoot was at the old Lyric Theater in B'ham which will be renovated soon. You can see a lot more photos here.

It seems that everyone is totally hung up on the pics of her in the "Bama" dress and haven't seen her other pics where she is absolutely beautiful.
...and I still can't get over that pic of Miss Louisiana at the bottom of page 3. Definitely the finest of all the contestant pics posted so far in this thread.
