Bad Idea
The Pacific Pro league will be targeting 18-22 year olds and offering them somewhere in the range of $50,000 a year to play football. That may not sound like much compared to an NFL salary but the goal is to provide an alternative way to get to the NFL and make those big bucks.
This league will start-up with 4 franchises in southern California and expand quickly. It will put pressure on universities to compensate players with more than just an education and a meal ticket. It will have an impact on college football recruiting.
Colleges will now have competition in the NFL pipeline. Competition makes everyone better. Elite athletes know that. Competition benefits the consumer by fueling innovation. College graduates know that. Many school administrators are both. The only question left is – what will they do when their cash cows can make cash without them?

So Bama is going to have to offer recruits more than Dodge Chargers and gift certificates to Tux Town to stay competitive?

When the guys making 50k realize they have to pay for everything and how quickly it adds up, then look at their counterparts in big programs, they will think re think their decisions .

The NFL doesn't like competition.. All they have to do is come out and say any one participating in this league isn't allowed to come to the NFL. Boom dead.
They will justify it by saying it's in the kids best interest to get a college education.. blah blah.

$50K/Year in Southern California is like living in poverty.

The NFL currently uses a tax payer funded minor league system in the NCAA. They don't want a minor league system that may or may not generate revenue for them.

Correct, they are also supposedly implementing a D league this year as well.
They will keep the 3 years out of High school rule. So these guys are going to have to make 50k a year for 3 years and hope the league stays around for that long

From a logical standpoint, I like the idea of paying people what their worth. This includes 18-22 year olds who can play football.
Not gonna cut it. I would think a salary range of a minimum of 40-50k up to 250k for elite, 5 star talent would be more appropriate and more likely to garnish real pro level talent.

An education, everything paid for, cash under the table, and an opportunity to play major college football is worth more than 50K. These kids know this.

As poor as y'all are I'm shocked y'all can keep up. You're breaking the state.

They can but if they think there's a way to profit from it they won't.

If they could work out a minor league system that generated revenue the nfl would be all over it.

After taxes and housing costs, how will they eat?

The state has nothing to do with it. The TAF is well funded. By the way, I live in Florida where we don't even have the need to charge a state income tax.

Well if they stay where they are, it's and extra $1,000 a week spending money. Cali is not that much more expensive other than housing.
But I think this is a wonderful idea and if the NFL gets involved, the pay will increase and I think this will be a great thing. I like the way baseball does it. Don't force a kid to go to college if they don't want to do so.

Plenty for socal. No one says these dudes have to live like a baller.
You do realize that San Diego County's largest employer is the military with 18-22 year olds making half that.
