Nope. The story goes that VI got spooked by the pre-game fireworks and wouldn't get back in the trailer again. They left it up to him and then ultimately quit trying altogether.
That tradition has completely died now I guess in accordance to treat him more like a Tiger in a sanctuary rather than a mascot to parade around a football game.
