Yep. Problem was it was not a violation. Saban must know something about Kiffin I don't.

Maybe Saban shares some football knowledge and Kiffin shares Layla.

But how dumb is phillips to go out to a restaurant with a highly recruited kid during dead period? both of them would be known to locals and all it takes is one pic on the mobile phone and the jig is up. DUMB.

If he did that, it's an obvious violation and he should lose his job.

That just doesn't make sense....

Two sources told Yahoo Sports that the encounter was described to the NCAA as a violation of the “bump rule” – a scenario in which a coach unexpectedly comes across a recruit and has an impermissible dialogue. Such an instance is considered a secondary violation by the NCAA. However, the violation can graduate to something more serious if the contact between a coach and recruit is premeditated or arranged – such as a dinner or social gathering – in which the coach would be deemed to be purposefully violating the recruiting dead period.

saban was seen sitting between Barry Sanders and Barry Sanders Jr. while in a dead period, at a bama basketball game, during a televised basketball game. I guess it's all in who you know.

How many coaches are fired for an "accidental" minor bump violation. Him quitting suddenly is telling....
