I am going to take that #1 ranking with a grain of salt.

It has been a while since we have been right at the top. We have been mucking around in the 10-20 area the last few years.

AU is finally taking track and field seriously again since Leroy Burrell took over. Not a contender yet but the improvement has been significant.

Arkansas finished 2nd in the nation in Men's Indoor Track & Field just a few weeks ago. I wonder why the drastic fall off for the outdoor season?

Events are fairly different. The track is different too. Some teams are just build for for one vs the other.

We’re usually better on the women’s side.

At the heart they are the same sport, but with point strategy they are two different games. You focus on one or the other. If you do well in one, you usually are pretty good in the other.

Arkansas was unranked in their first poll last year and Florida was at #101. They finished #2 and #1 respectively

They have screwy rankings until everyone has competed in actual events

Here is a lnk to the 2023 rankings by week to week.

Except for both your men’s and women’s teams three-peating as national champions in the same years 2011-2013. Pat Henry will have them back on the podium. Dude won 27 national championships at LSU, including 10 in a row from ‘88 to’ 97.

The five Triple Crowns the Hogs have won in their history seem to tell a different story.

Arkansas men have only competed in distance so far. I think they have an invitational coming up where the rest will run and field.

Ranking in track is different than other sports.

I've learned from the Rant that nobody cares nothin' about the "Exercisin' championship"...

Seriously though, hats off to the programs that make an effort in track and field. It is a bitch to put a team together in that sport with scholarship limitations and the fact that in track and field other than dropping the baton in a relay or colossal frick up's like no heighting... there are no equalizers like "fumbles or turnovers".

You either got the dudes or you don't.

Track and field is about getting raw athleticism into football. Now you can just buy it already refined.

Just kidding, not sure why.

Is it possible that it's all due to some sort of easy non conf schedule or something?
