The problem most of those on your list have is that a large proportion of their enrollment are commuters. Their growth has happened so fast they haven't been keeping up with housing. So, when you go to UCF (I did some graduate school work there) it doesn't feel like a traditional school. Of course, that can change over time but it's going to take a long darn time to do that.

^This.

Doesn't UCF have something like 10 satellite campuses?

You better worry more about Georgia Southern, they were better than UG this year.

But right now, they are certainly in danger of becoming the 3rd best program in the state, and the 4th best team. I'd be very concerned if I were a gator.

tam fans would know about being the 3rd or 4th best team in their state. Happens most years.

a serious question... what admissions standards does UCF have regarding GPA and SAT scores? I always heard it was pretty low at South Florida. Is central florida any different?

State of Florida is full of talented kids. Some of which are football smart and academically weak.

For incoming freshmen, the acceptance rate is 46%, average GPA is a 3.8, and SAT scores would place it in the middle of the SEC (avg is 1248/1837). Virtually identical stats to FSU too, but we reject more people.

UCF's numbers come from the massive number of transfers from community colleges (now "State" colleges in Florida) and satellite campuses. Our president wanted to quickly expand the university, and we did it by accepting transfers. I wish it wasn't the case, but it is what it is.

The only way I see UCF advancing to become anything beyond what it is now would be the advent of 16 team superconferences. If that happens, the AAC would be the first conference plucked for members.

For reference, the current and future members are: UCF, Cincinnati, UConn, Houston, Louisville, Memphis, USF, SMU, Temple, and soon to be ECU, Tulane, and Tulsa. (Current member Rutgers is going to the Big Ten)

To get to four 16 school conferences, this group would have to be raided. Louisville would be the prize in this group, but after them you have to think UCF has the best shot of any of them to get a good spot.

Without the move to 16 team superconferenes, UCF is stuck as is...a good mid major football program.

You have to be kidding me. Personally, I think we should get our own house in order before taking shots at anyone, even Florida. We're not too far off from where they are right now.

Their standards are lower obviously. If you can't get into UF or FSU you go to UCF, USF, UNF, etc.

I actually would've gone to UCF, but UF waited until absolutely the last possible moment to admit me

While we should be in panic mode we still have that lovely distinction of having not lost an FCS team, let alone one full of mental midgets and where STDs run rampant.

But yea, bad times for the keepers of the East.

I had the same situation with UGA and Auburn. Almost became a barner, thankfully the good people of Georgia came through in the eleventh hour.

Ahhhh the buttsniffers...gotta love em...most are smart enough to lay low the day after making the SEC look bad by losing to the Big Ten AGAIN! That's twice in three years. Of course you will be resigned to playing the odd bowl games where you will match up with Big Ten schools...or maybe you should try harder to play in Chick Fil A bowl against ACC teams?

You seem to have to forgotten that UCF spanked that dawgie azz just about five or six yrs ago in some meaningless bowl...so you might wanna hold your tongue.

UCF & USF are commuter schools with most students living within driving distance...but UCF is pulling ahead of USF with better facilities and has the corp sponsors to lend a hand. $$$$$$

I myself went to USF for a semester and even had relatives attend USF when it it first opened for business years ago. You could get a chimp admitted to USF back in the early 1970s and probably it would be in the top 15% of its class

UF? Don't ya worry about us...we are going to be stout in 2014.

But, UGA did manage to lose to UCF 10-6 a few years ago, in a bowl game. While finishing 6-7 , if I remember correctly.
