UK inked a new deal with Mark Stoops today.

His new contract will run through 2019. He will make 2.85M next season, escalating yearly and culminating in a 3.85M salary in 2019.

He has the following incentives:

$250,000.00 for each win greater than 7 on the season.

$200,000.00 for an SEC Championship.

$200,000.00 for a Natty.

$125,000.00 for a bowl game with receipts over 2M.

$50,000.00 for each semester (capped at $100,000.00) that the team has a GPA over 2.75.

$50,000.00 for a 950 or greater APR.

I think it's safe to say that if he accomplishes any of those this contract get thrown in the trash and they start over.

I really have no idea why he would agree to that before the coaching searches begin. Then again, I don't think another school would have upped that this year, so good for him.

Also, 200K for every win over 7? Thats pretty nice.

If he wins the SEC or National title at Kentucky he deserves a $5 million instant bonus.

Agreed. Hopefully he gets it from Kentucky and not somewhere else.

He would get it. Coach Cal would write him a check.

Might as well make it 200 million, not like it's going to happen

Great move by UK. I think stoops knows what he's doing and will be a good HC going forward

If nothing else, the University of Kentucky has shown more commitment to football in the last year than I've seen in my entire lifetime, and it's not even close. It's about time we got serious about the pigskin.

Extension was just an amendment, so no buyout.

Stoops will now average $3.225M over the next 6 years.

he gets paid more for winning an 8th game than for winning a Natty?

this is the kind of phuced up reward system our society has degenerated to..

Sweet gig for him, but is he really the "guy" for UK? I'm thinking this is like a Butch Jones hire - is pretty good, but not the next level kinda guy.

Either way, it's great to see an improvement

14-0 would give him a total bonus of $2.5 million.

I think that is a question that is asked of almost every HC hire in year 2. Saban excluded, obviously, since he won the Natty.

But more to the point, he's having apparent success. How else do you demonstrate commitment (and try to foster a commitment from the coach) other than doing facility upgrades and giving them raises?

The knock on UK has always been "How will you ever keep a coach - the administration only cares about basketball?"

Paying Mark Stoops 3.225M per year is a pretty good rebuttal.
