Except not even Ole Miss fans want to graduate from there. It's a awful fricking school full of weak minded pretentious douche bags, who hang plastic chandeliers over cold chicken tenders. Then on top of that, it's in Mississippi- a place even Alabama can point and make fun of. Their team is consistently hot garbage, the bars suck and close at 9, the women have STDs, the stadium has a high school-like atmosphere, and beating Alabama in consecutive years has given their fan base a false sense of superiority, despite sitting at home, watching Bama enjoy another SEC Championship.

I was overseas about 18 months ago and saw a lot Auburn 2013 National Championship shirts and hats and they didn't look like alumni. So maybe Auburn has the largest international fan base

Are there really more sidewalk fans in Alabama than there are in, say, Louisiana or Arkansas, with no major in state competition? Or in Mississippi where there's also no major pro competition?

To be fair, Notre Dame is extremely hard to get accepted to, and very expensive. A sidewalk Notre Dame fan or his kids can fail to gain acceptance or financially afford Notre Dame and still be a very well to-do citizen.
Alabama is like Ole Miss, LSU, and multiple other SEC schools. You realistically do not have to be functionally literate to be accepted, and it's insanely cheap in-state. Yet their fan base still sees actually students as "uppity elitists".

Alabama accepts less than 50% of their applicants and is the second highest ranked school in this conference.
