Notre Dame and Arkansas wouldn't play due to hate between J Frank and Lou way I understood it. Plus in 50's-early 70's Notre Dame didn't play bowl games.
I've never heard of any hatred between the schools, so that's interesting.

No, I wasn't joking. Everyone in the SEC, and the former SWC, have probably played Notre Dame at least once, but we never have. We've had some very good teams, but never played them. We would have been a good bowl match-up with them several times, but never played them. I didn't expect us to get matched up with them this time, but there's a reason it never happens and I seriously doubt that Arkansas is refusing to play Notre Dame.

I actually think I may have heard that before, but both men have been gone from those schools for a long time, so that shouldn't be an issue anymore.
I looked up to see who else Notre Dame has never played from the SEC and SWC.
SEC - Arkansas, Auburn, Kentucky, MSU
SWC - Arkansas, Texas Tech
