Not so in 2008 and I don't think we were top 5 in 2007 either.

Landry definitely is the top receiver in the class.

With your definitive knowledge you should probably be a recruiting coordinator or at least working for Rivals or Scout.

Well let's see. There are 4 players in the discussion: Farmer, Metoyer, Watkins, and Landry.

Farmer has great size and speed, but not the best hands. He drops passes.

Metoyer has great size and hands, but not elite speed.

Landry doesn't have elite size or speed but catches everything.

Sammy Watkins is honestly the complete package. Size, speed, and hands.

So if I had to rank them, based on this stuff, it would be

1) Watkins
2) Metoyer
3) Landry
4) Farmer

But after watching the all-star games, it is pretty clear that Landry has something intangible that the other guys don't. He was always open and caught pretty much everything thrown in his general direction.

According to the coaching staff at the UA allstar game, Landry's route running and speed out of breaks is light years ahead of the other propects.

Yep. The other three played in the USAAABowl.

Metoyer was the best of the three, apparently. Watkins showed off his speed and Farmer was OK.

So perhaps this discussion is really between Landry and Metoyer.

LSU up to #3 on rivals

how in the crap USC is still bringing in all this talent....

The only theory I can espouse on that is perhaps some of the USC recruits are committing early because they have a limited # of scholarships to offer (due NCAA sanctions).
Or, maybe USC recruits are just camera shy and are afraid of travel and don't mind not being on TV or going to bowl games

I believe USC's scholarship sanctions don't take effect until next year. I could be wrong about that, though.

I'm surprised Landry got the 5th star - not that he doesn't deserve it... just that the recruiting services usually seem more obsessed with how a guy looks in a speedo instead of whether he can play

I wouldn't say always. We consistently bring in Top 5 classes, yes. Occasionally, we'll fall to Top 10 or Top 15.

I should have used frequently.

Yes, and we also frequently win 11+ games with said classes.

So we're about to have our 3rd consecutive top 6 class for the first time ever?
