As long as it was toward the end of that decade, that would be cool.

Isn't Bama everyone's benchmark currently? So what's wrong with the quote?

If my coach EVER says beating some other team is our benchmark I promise I'll not go on a message board and defend it. It's just so little brother.

If Saban has said LSU is the benchmark at Bama there would be 10 threads about it on here - all started by LSU fans.

But I fully expected LSU fans to defend the comment. Predictable and sad.

(And lol at someone on THIS message board trashing someone else for posting on THIS message board. I watched the game bc I like football and it was on. Won't die alone. I've got a family and if they ever leave I'm sure I can find some Louisiana woman who will jump at the chance to be around a man with a college education, all his teeth, and a strong vocabulary. They certainly aren't used to it in their state, although im sure she will be told she's not allowed back in "the boot" if she picks a man from Bama)

I'm not sure what the issue is here. Bama is at the top of the CFB world right now, is in your division and has beaten you 6 times. I think beating Bama is the road to a championship. I personally think that as long as Miles was here that wasn't going to happen. I am glad that a change is being made although I am not sure that means we can get through the Tide. Of course, we aren't the only ones.

not so sure

mizzou, ole miss, arky, a&m and given the way the auburn game played out (with les as coach) their fans would want LSU to keep "O". Offense has been much more productive second half of season.

gators probably want "O" gone too. Tigers would only get better with a real OC calling plays instead of a TE coach.

and bama be careful what you wish for. Jr might just be able to steal the best OC ever that saban has had on his staff at bama.

From a fan of a team that does this every year...

Seriously bro, get off your high horse. Coach O is offering the highest compliment he can give to your coach and your program.

Inbreeding. They're not exposed to the outside world and don't know how to act.

Bama should be everybody's benchmark, asshat!

After getting crushed by Nebraska in 1995, then Michigan State head coach Nick Saban indicated Tom Osborn told him he had a "solid team" and not to hang his head with the defeat. Saban didn't understand why Tom Osborn would tell him he had a solid team after they had just destroyed his Michigan State Spartans by 50pts. Saban didn't realize it until the end of the season what Tom Osborn was saying. MSU did have a solid team and they actually made a bowl game, but Nebraska was just the "benchmark" at that time. MSU would later go on to get demolished against LSU in the Independence Bowl. Point is even Lord Saban was not always the benchmark of college football.

Great quote O. Never mind winning championships. That's not the benchmark. Beating Bama is.

LSU has to beat Bama twice in a season to win a championship.

The Gumps here don't seem to remember a time without Saban at Bama.
