Here are a couple of very old TD threads where LSU fans are talking about the corndog thing before it really got big:
The Corndog Story
Why do they call us corndogs?
As you can see, there are links in those threads to old AOL message boards that no longer exist. Those were the basis for the whole corndog thing.
The link that was posted earlier ( This one) from the AU website was only from 95 weeks ago and I don't see much mention of "LSU" and "corn dog" together before around October of 2007. Incidentally, I started on this message board around that time and I can remember the first mentions of LSU fans and corn dogs - it stuck out to me because I thought it was so odd. Anyway, if it's older than that then I'm unaware of it.
As you can see from the following links, around that same time other fan bases were also linked to corn dogs:
Florida Fans
ISU Fans
These were all copied from the original post just like the AU-LSU one was, but ours stuck ... probably because it got the desired reaction from our fanbase.

And they are all like, "OOOOOOHHHEEEE Jim Bob, we sure did piss off that cajun. Now get sissy readdddyyy Im going in dry" And I am very confused, because I only wanted a corndog

I know they are just teasing us with the thought we may get a corndog.
How can someone be a corndog because they eat corndogs? that is the riddle

Glad I'm not the only one that this never made any sense to. It still confuses me. LSU is known nationally for their tailgating scene and people cooking some great cajun food. None of this included a corndog, until people decided to have some fun with it since they were being accused of it.
I denounce it and will never have a corndog at my tailgate. By adopting it, people are just giving the opposing fan base more ammo. I'd personally prefer to see an opposing fan base walking around campus not seeing a single corndog and trying to figure out why the hell people call us corndogs.

If you were a corndog, and you were starving, would you eat yourself?

It started because Auburn folks noticed that yeasty, bourbon like smell, mixed with sweat and hot sauce and swamp water...smelled like corndogs.
Well said and I have no problem with the labeling. In all fairness it smells more like Poontang, Gumbo and Jambalaya mixture. I like to call it, Poongumbolaya.

I know I would! First, I'd smother myself with brown mustard and relish. I'd be so delicious!

Not sure why your pussy hurts so bad about this. I wouldn't be that militant about laying claim to such an unfunny euphemism.

I have always said Cajun food is just a maximum effort to cover up the fact that they eat a lot of road kill.

I've never eat anything that you see dead on the road. Im talking coon, armadillo, opposum.
but don't be hating on our turtle sauce piquante thats fighting words.
Got me a snapping turtle yesterday on the way to work had to turn around bring him home. Its nice not having to fight fellow Louisianian when you see one on the side the road.
