But I think what helps him in recruiting is the pride he feels in being able to coach at his alma mater. It really does show through.

[flame] Like yall will see when yall fire Grant and hire Prohm [/flame]

Or like that douche Gottfried when he was here. He never could coach that talent though. And then he started partying with the sorority girls and forgot about recruiting.

He must be Marshall Henderson's friend.

We never used the full compliment of scholarships under Trent Johnson. We had 3 seniors on scholarship and weren't filled up this past year. We were able to get John Odo in at mid term and he effectively red shirted last season. So he's been practicing with the team since January.

Grant seems to hate full rosters too, although it might be wise to have a couple laying around when it comes time to replace our upcoming Junior class.

In all seriousness, I just saw LSU has 6 commits. Where are their scholarships going to come from? Is JJ gonna have to start processing people?

With O'Bryant returning LSU will have 13 scholarship players next season:

Hickey
Collins
Stringer
Quarterman
Morgan
Hammink
Courtney
Coleman
Mickey
Martin
O'Bryant
Odo
Malone

Deng Deng is not going to sign with LSU.

LSU and Alabama should have about the same talent level next year, although JOB is 10 times the player any of our bigs are, unless we landed Tarik Black or something.

I can beat that. Johnson had years where he didn't use a full coaching staff, never used all 13 scholarships, and when he made the schedule for this season, he scheduled two less OOC games than are allowed. So we played 29 instead of 31.

We could have reached that completely arbitrary, but somehow important, 20 win level with 2 more OOC games.

I'm hoping he goes to Long Beach to play with the other Deng Deng. I think the basketball world would implode if that happened.

I think LSU will have a slight edge in talent, but either way, it takes more than talent to win. I think Jones not only has talented guys but a team he can really gameplan well with. Watch out for a ton of pressing next year.

Hickey and JOB could really make noise in the SEC next year. Especially if the conference is half as bad as it was this year. I could see LSU pulling an Ole Miss like season next year and making the tournament.

Trent also loved those trips to Rice, UC Irvine, UHouston, Boise St, etc.

God, Johnson was so terrible.

It's like he really did not care.

Does that give you a little perspective on why we're so excited about Jones and what he's doing?

LSU F Johnny O'Bryant decides to stay for his junior year

It was either back to school or bagging groceries

Not a tough decision imo

Actually he is a good student and has held interviews on the Coaches' shows and wants to eventually work in Athletic Administration and a pro team front office.

But if he did decide to leave would he be bagging in the checkout next to you ???

Probably a topic for another time, but you have to think that O'Bryant's race was a factor in assuming that he would be "bagging groceries."

I'm really tired of living in a world where the people of Alabama and ESPECIALLY Mississippi are openly discriminatory and show contempt for the Irish. It really has to end.

It's fun having good teams come in during SEC play.

No shite, these past couple of seasons have been miserable. It's so much more fun when more people are good, even if you take a couple more losses because of it. Not to mention it helps the conference as a whole when everybody is better.

We're already the best in football and baseball, and one of the best in track & field, gymnastics, softball, women's basketball, etc.
So if Men's hoops comes around next year that would be awesome.
You know Kentucky, Florida, and probably Ole Miss are going to be very strong again; and maybe Alabama and Mizzou as well.
And if Tennessee, Vandy, Arkansas, and LSU can recpature their recent or past glory, look out.
