To be honest, Msu got a bad schedule draw. We played Lsu and Atm early. Since then everyone has figured out how to beat both Lsu and Atm. On the flip side Msu caught Alabama peaking along with Arkansas late in the season.

I think you needed to be relevant in the past in order to get "back to relevancy." Just saying that your perception of the thing is fundamentally skewed.

LSU beat Arkansas 41-17 in 2011.

Yeah you're thinking of 2010. 2011 was close til Tyrann housed and punt return then LSU poured it on. 41-17

The SEC as a whole is down this year.

The 2011 Bama and LSU teams would crush any SEC team from this year by 21 pts.

Even this year's Bama team isn't as complete...their offense is mediocre at best.

You could actually make an argument that Bama is benefiting from traditional rivals being down as of recent.

I guess Urban Meyer didnt do that at Florida or ohio State.
Jimbo Fisher with both florida and miami a mess.
Chip kelly at Oregon.
Gene Chizik won with Cam Newton and was a shite show when he graduated.
This is Les Miles tenure at LSU in a nutshell. Anything he did positive had outside influences; anything that went wrong was because of him. for 11 years and never once did he lose his cool at being disrespected.

At least he didnt invent a disease to quit. These others didnt deal with the largest city become the third largest over night or a former coach at LSU taking the bama gig.

What an advantage for Saban that he knew all the high school coaches in Louisiana when Miles was still trying to shake hands. Miles dug in and with just a few breaks couldve really had a run. Certainly he was fortunate as well in a few things and this is not to take away anything that Saban has accomplished.

But I do agree with your overall premise that LSU is just an above average program at best unless they get a great coach or great QB. Some of the faithful think LSu sits on a burial ground or something and will win regardless of coach.

I won't argue with the other west teams getting better, but if you can't see the LSU had been in decline you aren't paying much attention.

2011 was the year that we had a player die that week of a heart issue. LSU players were talking trash about it and the players told Petrino what they were saying. That is the game Petrino was pointing and cussing Les from the sideline and they didn't meet after the game. I think if Petrino could have gotten ahold of someone something would have happened. He probably would have gotten his arse kicked but he sure was red faces mad during the game.

Here are LSU yearly opponents records from 2003-2007 (encompassing the time of LSU's 2 national titles)

Bama- 33-30
Arky- 36-26
Ole Miss- 24-35
Aub- 50-14
State- 19-40
Florida-46-18

There is big time validity to this argument. The SEC was down except for Auburn and maaaybe Florida.

The money from TV contacts has improved the conference. The arms race is at an all time high. Coaching staff salaries are attracting top talent. For frick sakes Mississippi state had Croom back when LSU was winning national championships. Ole Miss had Orgeron, and Alabama in 07 did not have 1 single person drafted in any of the 7 rds of the NFL Draft. Only Auburn with Tubs was a threat.

The monster 2003 and 2004 recruiting classes Saban left @ LSU were maturing during a time when the rest of the west was down and has caused LSU to have some warped since of reality of where they stand.

They are coming back to the pack and they don't understand that there are 8 or 9 teams with 100 million dollar athletic budgets. There are 9 or 10 teams are in talent rich states or have access to to elite players. The SEC in its current form is a meat grinder and getting rid of Les want change that.

Bama historically has the best program and right now they have the best coach. When Saban leaves they will come back to the pack as well.

What? MSU complaining about their schedule is a joke. You caught LSU before they got to play a single game. Your east opponents are Kentucky and a BAD Missouri team. I guess we had a easy schedule facing Bama early
