1982 LSU BAMA

I kinda stole this from the rant but thought it was definately worth posting here for the benefit of you Bama fans. This would be the final time that the Bear would ever face LSU. May he RIP.

Note: Germans if you saw it on the rant.

What would the LSU program be today, had it not been for Bryant in the 70s? Makes you think. LSU had some great teams in those years that few people relize, outside of LSU fans.

I agree with this. LSU did field some great teams. The SEC teams of that day measured their success against the Bear. That 1982 game seems like it was yesterday to me. I was thirteen years old and thought to myself, "This is the greatest thing ever! We beat the Bear!"

On an added note, The first big defensive hit you see was by Rydell Melancon. He went to my high school. A local star for me.

We slowly slipped in the 70s.

Or better yet.... what would we be if Bobby Bowden had taken the job over Bo Rein(RIP)

For those that don't know Bo died in a plane crash on his trip down to LSU.

Bo Rein would have been a great head coach at LSU. Wish we could have saw it happen.

I thought Rein was already named as head coach, and was on a recruiting trip when the plane crashed.

I worked with Bama's Offense Left Guard (76-Adcock) for several years. Go to 2:40 on video and watch Marshall run right through him. I'll have to ask him about that one day. He told me once that Marshall was a beast. Now I see why.

This is correct. He just never got to coach the team. Never made it to the spring.

he was the coach and on a recruiting trip. he was in a new plane borrowed from nichols construction co. and a very experienced pilot. the oxygen system failed and both died in flight. the plane continued and crashes miles over the atlantic ocean. an air force plane was scrambled and it flew close enough to observe that both men were dead and followed the plane until it ran out of fuel. i know this because i had sold the pilot life insurance years before and my company paid off w/o a body based on the testimony of the air force pilot.

Bowden would've died in that plane crash, as well as the Marshall plane crash. He says he was very close to accepting both head coaching jobs.

Or what if Bowden had taken the Alabama job in 1987?

Had never heard about that before. Just went and read up on the story after seeing it here. How awful.

Yeah, great memories. That game was a watershed for the 1980's.

As to favorite players, that's Alan Risher from Slidell as QB. A really great guy.

I watched that game live on closed-circuit TV at the Superdome. This was in the days before Tigervision, there was only one ESPN and the only SEC game on TV was the Jefferson-Pilot game.

Didn't know this. That's how Payne Stewart died too.

God Bles Dalton Hilliard.
That LSU team was STACKED.
Maybe the best defensive performance in a big game in school history.
I watched that game at the Prince Murat on Nicholson Drive, early pay for view.
The heroes of my youth.
