I really dont get why people care so much about who was better "x and x years ago". Yes, history is nice. But all that really matters to me is the present. And in the present we suck

History is usually talked about by people who are losing in the present.

For example, our baseball program kicks arse historically. But UF has the title currently.....That is what matters NOW.

LSU knows they are around 3rd all time in the SEC. It's the other tools that think if they repeat themselves enough, that will make it true...

And LSU is 9th Nationally in total National Championships with 244...we get it

Oh, Florida is 6th with 293. Guess you're still stuck at 2nd best.

LSU has been playing football for 123 years. In that time span they are 778-408 for a winning percentage of 65%. Up until 2000 it was 63%. Saban went 48-16 for a win percentage of 75%. Miles went 120-36 for a win percentage of 77%.

Congrats idiots. You chased off and fired coaches who combined provided the longest and most successful winning percentage in college football history.

Honestly, you should be rated under Florida and Auburn since you completely pissed away the last 17 years because you thought you were entitled to more than history shows you were.

"Historical perspective shows that there are seasons in which Bama scheduled an extra SEC game (VANDY) and were awarded the SEC championship due to having an extra W in the column...even if they lost a head to head matchup with second place team and had same number of conference losses.
Please link the year this happened.

I would really like to know which year this was.

Going to post Bama's SEC wins with explanations (tldr for people that doesn't want to read)

1933 - Bama (5-0-1) played 6 conference games including Vandy. Second team, LSU (3-0-2) only played 5 games including Vandy, but tied Vandy and one other. Funny, Tenn., GT, Miss. St. & Tulane all scheduled 7 conference games.

1934 - Tulane (8-0-0) & Bama (7-0-0) both undefeated and co-champs. Bama had Vandy (4-3) on schedule; Tulane had Florida (2-2-1). LSU played 6 games, lost 2)

1937 - Bama played 6 games, including Vandy, went undefeated; LSU played 6 games and lost to Vandy. Fl, Tenn & AU all scheduled and played 7 conference games.

1945 - Bama (6-0-0) scheduled 6 games w/Vandy, went undefeated. LSU (5-2-0) scheduled 7 games w/Vandy, and lost to Bama & Miss. St.

1953 - Bama (4-0-3) scheduled 7 games w/Vandy, tied w/LSU, Tenn & Miss St. LSU (2-3-3) scheduled 8 games w/Tulane (worse record than Vandy); and tied w/Bama & 2 others & lost to 3. GT (4-1-1) was second because they lost to Bama head to head. They had Vandy & Tulane on their schedule.

1961 - Bama (7-0) and LSU (6-0) co-champs. Didn't matter that Bama had scheduled and won 1 more conference game than LSU. Actually a disadvantage to Bama for having to play an extra game.

1964 - Alabama (8-0) did schedule 8 conference games & won them all. Some others scheduled 7 and some scheduled 6, but everyone else lost at least 2 conference games. Still a disadvantage to Bama for having to win more games.

That year, Bama beat not only Vandy, but LSU, Tenn., AU, Florida, Tulane, Miss. St., & Georgia. LSU lost to Bama & Florida.

1965 - Bama (6-1-1) scheduled 8 games w/Vandy; Ole Miss (5-3-0) also scheduled 8 games w/Vandy. Auburn was second because Bama beat them head to head. Only conference game Bama lost was to Georgia (3-3-0). LSU (3-3-0) lost to Bama, Ole Miss, & Florida.

1966 - Bama (6-0) & Georgia (6-0) co-champs. OM (5-2) had scheduled more games w/Vandy.

1971 - Bama (7-0) only undefeated team in conference play.
Florida & Kentucky also played 7 games; Miss State played 8. For some reason, LSU only scheduled 5 conference games & lost to Bama & Ole Miss.

1972 - Bama (7-1) was champ by beating LSU (4-1-1) who beat Auburn (6-1) who was second in SEC play.

1973 - Bama (8-0) did schedule more conf. games but won them all. LSU was second with their one loss to Bama. The other conference teams lost at least 3 games.

1974 - Bama (6-0) undefeated; all others lost at least 2 conference games.

1975 - Bama (6-0) only undefeated team. see above.

1977 - Bama (7-0) & Kentucky (6-0) only undefeated teams. Kentucky was on probation & ineligible to win the SEC championship.

1978 - Bama (6-0) only undefeated; Georgia (5-0-1) next but tied with Auburn.

1979 - Bama (6-0) only undefeated. Georgia next (5-1) w/loss to Auburn

1981 - Bama & Georgia co-champs, both undefeated at 6-0; both had Vandy on schedule.

1989 - Bama, Tennessee, Auburn 3 way tie champs at 6-1.
Auburn beat Bama who beat Tenn. who beat Auburn.

1992, 1999, 2009, 2012, 2014, 2015, 2016 - Bama..... All SEC championship game winners.

are you trying to say LSU finished 2nd?

FWIW, we should claim the title, UK did with their retroactive title a few years later and they have less ground to stand on

No, AU was second.

I have been doing some reading and seems like the in the early days they did do the championship by winning percentage which they changed in the 80's, making everyone play the same amount of games.

Seems that Bama did win the 72 championship by winning one more SEC game, which was the rules then.

But on the other hand, Bama was screwed out of 1976 and 1980 due to playing one extra game and bringing down their winning percentage..... according to this AU guy's research.....

LINK

So, if they do go back and change the rules, Bama will lose one and gain two. Alright?

They did

And just like the person you quoted previously lost to the "2nd" team and won because they scheduled the extra game

So, if they do go back and change the rules
I just have a problem with the SEC allowing UK to claim it in '76 and not AU in '72
