Bama, with a true freshman and true soph at DB last year led the SEC in pass defense, I see no reason they won't dominate again, and eliminate some timely mistakes.

2010 stats

Bama - PBU-57 / Int's-22 / Pass eff. D-1st
Auburn - PBU-39 / Int's-12 / Pass eff. D-9th
Arky - PBU-41 / Int's-11 / Pass eff. D-5th
Florida - PBU-38 / Int's-22 / Pass eff. D-2nd
Georgia - PBU-29 / Int's-16 / Pass eff. D-6th
Kentucky - PBU-24 / Int's-9 / Pass eff. D-7th
Lsu - PBU-51 / Int's-19 / Pass eff. D-3rd
Miss St - PBU-45 / Int's-13 / Pass eff. D-8th
Ole Miss - PBU-32 / Int's-6 / Pass eff. D-12th
So. Car. - PBU-44 / Int's-10 / Pass eff. D-10th
Tennessee - PBU-43 / Int's-18 / Pass eff. D-4th
Vandy - PBU-35 / Int's-9 / Pass eff. D-11th

It is pretty remarkable.

However, Dareus when he was healthy helped our young secondary a lot. A lot of assholes on here threw him under the bus BUT he was a gamechanger. He rushed the QB on every play.

I'm pretty sure the concensus would be that LSU had a better pass D than you last year.

I mean, come on, your pass D made Jefferson look like a legit SEC QB.

I'm pretty sure, Bama led in pass breakups, interceptions and pass efficiency defense. Lsu also gave up 15 passing TD's to Bama giving up 12 passing TD's last year.

I think our new D-line coach will make a huge difference in our ability to get pressure and sacks on the opposing QB. We haven't been doing real well in that categaory the last few years (even '09).

Umm, no its not.

He had one long pass play. Without that one play, he would have had less than 75 yards passing.

Well they did give up 3 TDS vs Auburn and made a lot of mistakes throughout the season. LSU had a more consistent group.

Dre "Swag" Kirkpatrick > PP

Dre 7 PBU 3 Int 1 FF 53 tackles 4 TFL for 17 yds
PP 6 PBU 4 Int 0 FF 42 tackles 1.5 TFL for 5 yds

Dre = future #1 draft pick.

Xactly. I mean, we've got the best DB this conference has seen in decades. Probably since Antonio Langham.

Bama's pass D stats are inflated because they didn't have to face GMac and Julio.

Be honest. Alabama did not have the best secondary in the SEC last year. LSU clearly had a superior secondary. Florida was probably better as well. The secondary was absolutely atrocious at times i.e. LSU, USC, first half against Arkansas, second half against Auburn, etc... But they should be much improved this year with how much depth and experience they have now.

Do you have any more stats you can give? Numbers aren't everything. It's consistency, and LSU had plenty of it. Bama did have a solid pass D, but nothing worth starting a thread about.

Finish reading.

eliminate some timely mistakes

Their mistakes were at critical junctures. Overall, they had more INT's, more Pass breakups, gave up less TD's and had a better pass efficiency defense than Lsu. The only thing Lsu led in was yds given up on the season and it was less than 80 yds overall difference.

If someone had told me last year before the season that Bama would have the SEC's top overall defense, I would have seen no way we did not repeat. Crazy how things happen. College football is about timing and how you play against the best teams and in the most crucial situations. Season averages never tell the real story.

It will be a scary group this year, everyone has a year under their belts and Barron should be healthy.

I would have loved to pencil in Green at nickel, but with the suspension, I guess it's Menzie.

I've heard great things about Dre so far, he's actually getting serious about the 4th Quarter program and is becoming more vocal.
