So Alabama's SEC title drought is the shortest by far but, Saban lost two games last season so

Decline OFF [ON]

Never mind that Saban had a 3-loss season not too long ago that was followed by two straight titles. That's ancient history guys.

2007 Georgia might disagree with you. Yeah...UGA had a bad day against Tennessee (a common theme in the Richt era) but the best team in the SEC East doesn't get pulverized by a score of 41-17 to an Alabama team that eventually finished the season with a 7-6 record.

They lost 41-17 to a Bama team missing three starters on offense. The same Bama team that lost their next four games, including Mississippi State and Louisiana Monroe

To be fair, that '07 Alabama team was better than their eventual 7-6 record would indicate. They lost a tough game in overtime against Georgia, lost a tough defensive battle against Florida State, and played LSU right down to the wire. 2007 Alabama should have finished 8-4 at worst, but the leaders of the team gave up after losing to LSU in the closing minutes of the game. It's as if the fire they had completely vanished.

So you're saying that LSU made y'all quit?

That's exactly what I'm saying. The high water mark of the '07 season for us was when Arenas returned that punt for a touchdown that put us up 34-27 in the 4th quarter. It was down hill from there.

We went from being one win away from being favorites to win the SEC West to being 6-6 with a berth in the Independence Bowl.

and they were Alabama's marquee win to the tune of 41-17. Alabama lost 6 close games that season, but they "handled" Tennessee. Just how good was Tennessee?

I know. It was a flame.

Georgia had a nice little South Carolina type of run in 2007.

Nope...1977 undefeated...but Bama always played an extra SEC game. So, UK was 6-0 and Bama was 7-0 in conference play.

Oh...that, and UK wasn't eligible for the Conference title because of probation.

ETA...in '76, UK was somewhere around the middle of the pack.

Had they been eligible they would have been co-champs. Prior to '92 if two teams tied and both were unbeaten in SEC play regardless of games played the title was shared. For an example this happened in '61 with Alabama and LSU.

Auburn beat Bama in 1972, both teams finished with one loss in conference. Bama was declared the champ because they were 7- in the SEC and Auburn was 6-1. I may have read Bama did that another year, but just remember that one.

Yeah in year's prior to 1992 champions were determined by win %.

Thus two teams that went undefeated were always co-champs because they both had 1.000 records.

However a long time ago there were years where teams played differnet numbers of conference games.

Thus a team that went 7-1 has a better win % than a team that went 6-1, etc.

So playing an extra game was a bit of a gamble, helped you a lot if you won it but hurt you a lot if you lost it.

The Kentucky 76/77 thing is interesting. They get credit on paper for a co-championship they didn't deserve in 76, however they get jipped out of a co-championship in 77 because of probation. So ya, Kentucky did kinda sorta get one in the late 70's if you wanna count either of those.
