BASKETBALL

• Why does the SEC office wait until just two months before the start of the season to announce the conference basketball schedules? They literally wait until September when the games start in November. It’s crazy.

• Why have they not announced at least a scheduling format for next season with two new teams coming in? Will we go from playing 5 teams twice in a season down to three? Will they keep the number of conference games at 18? We’re 9 months out. Surely they can at least give us an idea.

• In the year 2024, can they not wait until 2 weeks out to assign game times and networks? If we can do that in football, why not basketball? I understand needing to assign dates in advance, but the tip times should not be set in stone so early.

• Can we move the ACC Challenge back to January? No one except hardcore basketball fans are paying attention until after football season ends.

BASEBALL

• Pretty much same as above, granted they normally announce the schedules in September along with basketball so at least we have a bit more time. Are we sticking with 30 conference games?

FOOTBALL

• I think 90% of all fans agree that a 9-game schedule with three annual rivals is the best option. Can we just make this official and announce it already?

• With the inevitable SEC/BIG 10 leagues taking over the sport, can we get a SEC-BIG 10 football challenge started up? Play this in Week 2 every year. Would be 8 games total. Play one or two on Thursday night and the rest on Saturday.

That’s my rant for the day.

I agree, but there is no incentive for the schools to agree to an additional conference game (where half of them would lose) instead of playing a cupcake until Disney/ESPN says they'll increase the payout.

Not a bad idea. You wouldn't have UGA, UK, Florida, or USC participating in it with their OOC games vs. ACC foes. So 8 of the 12 remaining SEC teams would have that OOC P5 game scheduled.

How far in advance should this be released?

I wish this would come from the SEC office instead of being leaked on X, formerly known as Twitter.

I would think 5-6 months for at least the SEC games is a reasonable ask. It’s nice to be able to plan road trips well in advance.

We get the football schedules roughly one year in advance. It’s odd to me that 3 months before basketball season we still don’t know all the conference teams we’ll be playing.

WHAT advantage does a cupcake game have over a 9th conference game?

You may say a "W", but everybody (even the fans) aren't on board & less attendance in the stands.

*Yes, the financial assistance these smaller schools receives does have worth.

&, you could also say even 1 conf. game is too much because 1/2 the teams will get a conf. loss. Therefore, should NO conf. games be played?

Since I don't follow bb, I wouldn't know. But I thought I see releases that say "Aside from Teams A/B/C, _____ will also be playing Teams X/Y/Z".

One of the bigger problems with football scheduling in the SEC is the fact that some schools have four teams that take a week off before playing them, while others have zero teams, taking the week off before they play them.

That is simply not fair and I don’t care how you put it ; Alabama, Georgia and LSU Are taking the brunt of other teams getting a week off of preparation before they play them.

Tennessee and Auburn get zero or one team that have a week off before playing them. It does make a difference.

So everybody should take the same week off?

I think nine conference games with no rival games. Each team would rotate the same.

Show me the money. Otherwise, the SEC just relinquished all control to ESPN. And that can't be good.

And let's see who survives this year's schedule.

First of all, that’s not a bad idea.

Allow the nfl to have sat and Sunday games. Everyone would freak out. But it’s not a horrible idea.

But no. You can have the sec adhere to a level of fairness to where over a three year period tk level out the number of weeks off before an opponent.

It’s not that hard and you know this.

Didn't they already do this? Believe they announced the format for the first season of OU/TX joining.

2 permanent opponents home and away. One rotating opponent home and away. The remaining 12 are all single games.

Regarding football, 9 game is fine as long as all of us are getting paid more $$$ for playing a 9th game. But, I'm sure Snakey and ESPN will end up finding a way to screw all of us.

It actually works out better with 3 permanent opponents and 9 games.

With that setup you play 3 teams every year and 12 teams twice every 4 years. You basically only need a 4 year schedule that repeats after that. Any player that goes to a SEC school for 4 seasons will play home and home against every SEC team in the conference (other than games played at Neutral sites like UGA/UF or Texas/OU).

I still don't see the rush towards 4 year cycles. NOR am I advocating for 12 years.
