Let's not get too political here...

Amidst all the reshuffling, these nerds voluntarily left the cash cow that is the SEC over 50 years ago.

If they'd had stayed, would GT football be akin to Vandy? Are they anyway?

Wow! He should be hung.
Tech seems to think they are the Harvard of the South. That’s pretty funny when half of their team can’t speak understandable English and the rumor has been going around for years that class attendance for athletes is pretty much optional. GT would crawl naked thru broken glass if a totally illiterate 5 star with a 65 IQ gave them a look. It hasn’t been that many years since the NCAA punished GT for academic fraud. And still they act like they have rocket scientists on their football team. Too too funny

Vandy would no longer be the doormat of the SEC if GT had remained.

They did shut down their football program for a long time. They play football now but it's a really low division on the level of community colleges. Their "stadium" is on par with local high schools.

Do any SEC players attend class? I thought Covid essentially put an end to that just like it did the SAT/ACT qualifications. SAT/ACT is finally making a comeback for obvious reasons but I doubt it’ll affect athletes like it did Ole Miss last decade.

Bobby Dodd couldn't stand the idea of other schools abusing the "140 rule" by overrecruiting, then cutting players (in violation of the NCAA rules).

That was the company line, but it was about Tech being able to keep all the money and go independent. I think having Butts/Dooley to the north, Jordan to the south and Bryant to the west had as much to do with it. The man was trying to save Atlanta got torched anyway. Frankly, I don’t give a damn. !

Absolutely no one outside the state of Georgia cares a whit about Ga Tech.

GTs optional class attendance has nothing to do with Covid. Been hearing about this for years. At least since the 90s. This story was confirmed to me by the mother of a former player. She was upset as her son was a serious student who actually planned to be an engineer. Unlike 99% of the others on the team. A former coach also tried to get her son to change his major to something like management or management science - a major they stuck their athletes in. They refused and the coach didn’t like it.

Bobby Dodd thought GT could be the next ND. Independent and keeping most of the money to themselves. Boy, was he wrong!
