Here are the LBs likely to be on the roster for LSU and Alabama next year.. (I have this for all the SEC teams, but LSU is an example of a particular problem). Note the difference in numbers, size, HS rankings.

LB is a particular strength for Alabama and a particular weakness for LSU. Alabama does have deficiencies on defense next year, particularly at DE. But this is a good exercise to examine how a team recruits to play a 3-4 defense.

Alabama

o JR OLB
o R. Evans 6-3 231 5 star .9918
o SO OLB
o C. Miller 6-4 230 5/4 star .9796
o J. Mosley 6-5 228 walk on
o A. Jennings 6-3 264 4 star .9237
o FR OLB
o M. Brown 6-5 246 4 star .9452
o S. Jennings 6-1 220 3 star .8615
o B. Davis 6-4 234 5 star .9951
o T. Hall 6-5 247 4 star .9663
o M. Wilson 6-2 244 - 5 star .9879
o 2017 HS OLB
o D. Moses 6-2.5 235 5 star .9946
o M. Benton 6-1.5 237 4 star .9567
o V. Cowan 6-4 226 4 star .9639
o JR ILB
o S. Hamilton 6-0 232 4 star .9173
o SO ILB
o K. Holcombe 6-4 223 4 star .8954
o FR ILB
o K. Anderson 6-1 215 3 star .8631
o J. McMillon 6-3 237 4 star .9055
o 2017 HS ILB
o S. Hamilton 6-0 240

LSU

o JR OLB
o D. Alexander 6-1 201 3 star .8703
o SO OLB
o -
o FR OLB
o M. Divinity 6-2 218 4 star .9667
o R. Thornton 6-3.5 225 4 star .9196
o S. Martin 6-4 230 3 star .8659
o JR ILB
o M. Patterson 6-3 231
o D. Voorhies 6-2 208 4 star .9146 (S)
o SO ILB
o -
o FR ILB
o R. Lamarque 6-1 212
o D. White 6-0.5 258 4 star .9366 (RB)
o L. Garnett 6-3 250 3 star .8339

Maybe I didn't love you quite as often as I could have. And maybe I didn't treat you quite as good as I should have. If I made you feel second best, girl, I'm sorry I was blind...

Arden Key plays OLB - Soph.

He may be listed in a lot of places as a DE but he plays OLB in Aranda scheme 90% of the time

and FWIW this is the whole Chavis left us in. We are still digging out.

Same reason he left off Bower and Washington, who are also now OLBs.

Is he? Well, Corey Thompson also got a 6th year and is now a LB.

ETA: I believe 4 star Andre Anthony also moved to LB, I could be mistaken though.

great. I had not heard on that one yet. I always thought he was a half step slow at safety due to his 220+ size.

Seeing as though we have been in a 3-4 for 1 year now, while you have been in one for like 8 years, this makes alot of sense...

Devin White will be better than anyone of those other players on your list

Breaking news. Really though it's not like we don't know this shite. We tried to tell the Aggies just as the Vols tried to tell us. Chavis sucks at recruiting. He has famously said I will not sacrifice size for speed. Well when you have a bunch of safeties you get run on for 300+. The only reason he wasn't worse at LSU was because we had better lines and DBs. O and Aranda have are trying to recruit some bigger boys at LB takes time. You can see that in the last couple of classes.

This needs to be directed at A&M. Chavis is responsible for everything you just listed.

Maybe, but I doubt it. Alabama is LBU. I'll take the field vs Devin White in this case. Call me when LSU gets one picked in the first round again

You know that LSU has only started recruiting for this scheme this year. You also left off LSU's best linebacker on next years team.
