God don't bring up 1998-1999 South Carolina football. That should be locked away in a jail cell in a max security prison and never seen again. 1-21 with a 21 game skid. An offense in 1999 that only averaged 7 ppg, and only scored 14 or more twice. Yeesh.

I mean, when you have Vandy, Kentucky and now Missouri in your division, you basically just have to win 1 or 2 conference games.
At its peak, you could be a pretty good team and lose 6 games in the West.

Given that the historically worst football program in the SEC is in the East (Vandy) it's way more difficult to finish last in the East than the West.
If UGA or UF was in the West they likely would have a last place finish or two. Vandy being in the East has given the teams on that side a buffer to last place most of the time.

The only year that had a chance of happening was 2013.
UF would've never have finished last in the West.
