First team All American at Bama. What would LSU have done differently?

Would've taught him how to cover.

Collins was considered a Top-10 pick immediately after the season ended. I'm not sure what happened between now and then but regardless I don't think him playing for LSU would have significantly increased his stock.

Teach him how to lose to Bama 4 times in a row.

Tyrann Mathieu wasn't considered a great cover guy coming out of LSU. Even Peterson wasn't considered the best cover guy. People had been saying to move Peterson to safety for years because of his lack of coverage skills.

He covered well enough at Bama but his strength is stopping the run. That would have been the case wherever he went to school.

Most of us are just fricking with the Bama fans about him going to LSU.

As for the drop in his NFL stock. He was thought of so highly at the beginning because he was on an undefeated team and he played for Bama. As soon as scouts got a look at him in person his stock started to drop. He doesn't have the cover skills to combat what most of the NFL is running these days.

Well, that was his knock by NFL scouts. They specifically called out the Ole Miss game.

Talk about grasping at straws. Some of the posts in this thread and the other one have been downright ridiculous. It is really quite entertaining.

"Peterson is consistently out of position in coverage. He lacks instincts, and sometimes it seems like he just doesn’t know plays. He is usually overaggressive in coverage and he struggles to commit to his zone in pass plays and play actions. He also commits a whole lot of pass interference penalties after he gets beat."

"Must prove his ability to stay with larger receivers and tight end in man coverage, as they use their length advantage to separate and frame to shield him from the ball."

Just so you know who you're quoting.

"However, Peterson is not a perfect cornerback. He’s struggled at times against quick receivers and gets beaten on double moves."

"Does not have elite recovery speed and will not always close the gap when the ball is in the air. Over aggressive player that can be beat by play action and double moves. Struggles at times anticipating routes. Lacks the ability to consistently shed blocks in run support."
