They are not even restricting where he plays. They are just restricting where he can get a football scholarship.
If he pays his own way, he can go wherever he wants. IIRC, after a year he can even go on scholarship at the new place.

Grant did not sit 2 years. He signed w/Bama in 2010, transferred in the summer of 2011, and saw his first game action for Auburn in the 2012 season.

ESPN was reporting that KM could not play for a SEC school or another scheduled opponent for 4 years. I know that has to be wrong. But, I suspect TxA&M would not agree to any shortening of play restrictions.

AY saying Kevin Murray wanted to be named QB coach and Sumlin said no. I think you are right about the baseball angle. Still pissed Sumlin didn't see the crapshow developing with the Murrays and do whatever it took to keep Allen. Allen was the only SEC QB of the two anyway. Allen is the real loss here. Kyler got his vagina hurt in the Auburn game and quit on the team.

I've heard this other places as well. And it's not the first time Kevin tried this. I know he thinks he looking out for the best interest of his son, but he's delusional.

Since we're talking about retarded rules, someone fill me in:
The worst rule in NCAA sports is the deal by which the school can yank your scholarship if you get hurt, or aren't playing up to expectations. (The Saban Process).
I heard they were changing that, along with better meal coverage last year. Can anyone confirm if the 4-Year Guarantee on the scholarships got implemented yet?

NCAA transfer rules require a waiver from the school a player was attending. The waiver is not to be unreasonably withheld and it can be appealed to the NCAA if not given. Over the years it has been customary for some schools to wave to all, except its own conference or the West division of the SEC, etc.
The waiver only allows the player to obtain a scholarship at the school to which he transfers. There is still a one year no play rule. If a waiver is not given, the player can still go to any school but still has to sit out ONE year but cannot get a scholarship for that ONE year at the school.
There is NO two year wait. All this is NCAA rule.
There is also a Hardship rule for transfers which is very subjective, that allows immediate play.

The trick is to get kicked off the team (Nick Marshall, Tray Matthews, Josh Harvey Clemons) and then you just have to sit out a year no matter what.

You waited 1 1/2 years to post that?
Not bad

When you sign the scholarship papers you make a commitment. The school has to agree to release you for you to play anywhere else. If they dont, you're fricked. Not too unusual for the school to grant the release, but insist that you dont play against them in the future or go to a place that would adversely impact them. So I dont think thats too unreasonable.
Kyler should go to TCU or Baylor.

Would you let your girl leave you for one of your friends?

Try reading that again. I said if he pays his way (which Grant did), he only has to sit one instead of two years.

Accept the terms of the release or you get no release. Pretty simple stuff, actually!

OP, re not being compensated? Players get free room, board, medical treatment not to mention free education. Where exactly is a player not being compensated? As well, the NCAA is a private organization with its own membership rules. I would assume that there is language in a NCAA scholarship that forbids such jumping around & the kid and a parent/s signed it.

a lot of coaches sign contracts stating they cant go to certain schools. I would think it would be rare to tell NS or Urbs but it does happen. You have to be released from your scholarship and in order to do that some schools make it conditional. but in general I think if someone wants to leave most coaches will not put restrictions on where kid can go. Bama lost at least one RB who went to AU. Not sure that worked out well for the RB
